Job Summary:
Experience:
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) should have
· Trained and proficient with VA Registry Software package OncoTrax.
· 3 years of experience working with both current and previous applications od said application and have abstracted in the software within the last 3 years and well versed with new and upcoming patch changes.
· Been computer literate as patient documentation has been directly input in the patient's electronic medical record.
· Have knowledge of the following:
1. Natural history of Cancers (including knowledge of cell types associated with various types of cancer and procedures for identifying neoplasms).
2. Anatomy and Physiology as well as medical terminology, common acronyms, and symbols.
3. Tumor nomenclature and classifications, ability to code topography, morphology and register tumor cases.
4. Descriptive statistics and end results reporting.
5. Automated data processing techniques with ongoing or proposed computerized systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Candidate should:
1. Thoroughly search the medical record to identify and code all information pertinent to the patient's diagnosis. This includes demographics, diagnosis, site and histology, diagnostic/procedures, extent of disease, and treatment. Coding assignments may involve highly technical, complex diagnoses/procedures.
2. Utilize coding references to ensure that complete and accurate data are collected. The Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) will code information contained on several forms and documents that make up an entire record, code diseases, surgical procedures, and co-morbid conditions.
3. Use specific codes required in a cancer registry, stage of disease, morphology, and topography utilizing the most current editions of the; International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Staging Manual, and the Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS) manual.
4. Independently code a wide variety of medical diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures. These include but are not limited to:
· Code stages of disease using American Joint Commission on Cancer staging requirements.
· Analyze the consistency of coding of registry data, cancer diagnosis, histology, treatment (including surgical procedures, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, and radiation therapy).
· Identify coding discrepancies.
· Facilitate resolutions if coding discrepancies by discussion with the cancer registrar coordinator.
· Code complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures that are identified as difficult to classify.
· Review records to obtain data.
· Enter data obtained from the sources into the registry software, OncoTraX V2. l l P54 or greater.
· Provide on consults hours assisting and advising Cancer Program staff with training and/or Commissions on Cancer survey readiness and preparation.
