Principal Scientist (Lab Head), Checkpoint Immunology
The Immunology and Inflammation Research Therapeutic Area in Sanofi is seeking highly motivated scientist to lead projects evaluating novel therapies in the fields of Immune Checkpoint Biology to treat autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The scientist will lead new drug discovery programs from the early stage to the identification and validation of a clinical candidate. The successful candidate will have deep expertise in Immunology, autoimmune disease biology, and a demonstrated track record in leading scientific and/or drug discovery programs.
The successful candidate will be the biology lead for various Checkpoint-based therapeutic programs. She/He will design and execute experiments to validate checkpoint targets for various I & I prioritized indications. The candidate will work in a matrixed environment and collaborate extensively with multidisciplinary platform groups to advance the portfolio projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for applying scientific expertise and judgement to initiate, design and execute preclinical studies to validate the target and to support the project transitions in timely fashion.
Promotes the use of novel experimental approaches within Checkpoint immunology and project team; routinely investigates/creates innovative processes, hypotheses and methodologies. Developing own strategy for drug discovery.
Collaborate with Immunology and Inflammation Bioinformatics Team to identify and validate therapeutic targets.
Provide scientific expertise, establish and manage external scientific collaborations, monitor the external market, and provide critical project assessments.
Makes decisions that frequently require developing new options to solve moderately complex problems. Works in ambiguous situations within therapeutic area/platform.
Uses a high level of scientific judgement to adapt and/or create standard methods and techniques by applying breadth of knowledge and prior work experience.
Works independently on assignments using knowledge and work experience. Gathers input from colleagues and management to address issues at therapeutic area level.
Provide and promote support for operational excellence according to Sanofi values and ethics.
Prepare publications, research and clinical/regulatory documentation in accordance with Sanofi quality standards.
Basic Qualifications:
PhD plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience preferably in pharma/biotech set up.
Leading edge knowledge of Checkpoint Immunology including co-inhibitory/-stimulatory pathway biology, T/B or innate immunity and relevant experience in the immunology/inflammation-related disease areas.
Candidate should possess a strong understanding of biological concepts, mechanistic elucidation, and phenotypic workflows coupled with a strategic vision of novel target drug discovery
Demonstrated track-record of successful project leadership, and the leadership and mentorship of junior colleagues is required
Expertise in various in vitro immunological assays and in vivo inflammatory models is required.
Outstanding track record of scientific publications, presentations, patents, projects as a leading contributor or senior author.
Established track record of leading drug discovery programs would be preferred.
Flexibility to adopt to a rapidly to changing priorities and deadlines and ability to lead others through change in a dynamic, fast paced industry and work environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: impactful oral and written communication.
