Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required, associate degree preferred
- At least 20 years of age
- CNA certification preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Active (Serve Safe) State sanitary certification and minimum two hours of job-related continuing education per year
- Valid California drivers license and ability to be insured
- Meet required health screening, TB clearance, and Criminal Record Clearance
- Speak, read and write fluent English with clarity and proficiency
Job Functions:

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize, implement and direct scheduled activities of a recreational, physical, educational, social and spiritual nature for residents both in a group and for individuals
- Ensure participation of all residents and that activities offered can be applied to various levels of functioning according to resident ability
- Assist the RCFE Resident Life Coordinator in planning for residents to go off campus for off-campus events
- Perform room visitations and one-on-one activities as required by schedule and/or observed resident need
- Assist the RCFE Resident Life Coordinator with resident council meetings, as required
- Assist the RCFE Resident Life Coordinator in interviewing of residents and creating plan of activities to be incorporated into overall resident care plans
- Keep clear and concise documentation on logs and in resident charts of resident participation in activities as required by state regulations and facility policy.
- Maintain activity spaces and storage areas in a clean, organized and hazard free manner according to state regulations
- Be consistently punctual for set-up for resident activities. Transport residents to assigned locations for activity and encourage residents to participate
- Monitor and supervise residents at all times during activities to ensure resident safety
- Assist in meal service to residents at mealtimes
- Assist and participate in hydration program
- Transport/escort residents to doctor’s appointments, religious and social events
- Adhere to professional dress code that reflects the mission of Santa Teresita with excellent grooming and appearance
- Be knowledgeable and follow all safety procedures and regulations established in the employee handbook and other policies
Working Conditions:
- Spend extensive time outdoor when activities require it
- Assignment to multiple levels of care will vary according to scheduling needs
- Subject to hostile behavior from residents and families
- Ambient temperatures that are higher than 74 F to preserve comfort of residents
- Exposure to chemicals and body fluids
- Extensive mobility throughout 12-acre campus and multiple buildings
Skills and Job Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours required, including availability for weekends and holidays
- Ability to supervise several residents at a time for group activities
- Keen awareness and observation skills to identify reportable changes in residents and/or their environment
- Converse with residents in a familiar and respectful manner that engages them in a meaningful way and exhibits patience and tact
- Attend required in-service and other training as required for this position
- Take responsibility and is accountable for his/her actions
- Complete 8 hours of continuing education annually that is pertinent to job requirements
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- Ability to lift and/or carry a minimum of 25 pounds alone, and a minimum of 50 pounds in partnered lifting to a height of 5 feet
- Ability to push/pull or move a minimum of 250 pounds for a distance of 5,000 feet
- Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat and crouch
- Ability to stand and walk about for long periods of time.
