The Director, Risk Modeling is part of Santanders Model Development department and responsible for developing and managing advanced regulatory-compliant risk rating and loss forecasting models for the Commercial Banking portfolios. These models are used to support multiple functions including underwriting, portfolio management, stress testing (HCR/DFAST) and loss reserve calculation (CECL/IFRS). The Associate Director, Risk Modeling is an expert resource in the field of credit risk quantification and modeling and works closely with business leaders, risk management groups and regulatory authorities. It is key for the interested candidates to demonstrate superb communication skills and the ability to write clear concise prose dealing with highly technical subjects, as well as the ability to work in a world-class dynamic and inspiring team environment with other talented individuals.
This position can be hybrid from the State Street location in Boston, MA, Florham Park location in Florham Park, NJ, or Madison Avenue location in New York City, NY.
Position Duties:
- Responsible for developing and enhancing advanced credit risk models
- Conduct a critical analysis to understand the business needs, model requirements and its assumptions
- Produce accurate, concise and high-quality model development documentation
- Ensure all model deliverables are of the highest standard and compliant with bank and regulatory standards
- Create model performance monitoring reports on an ongoing basis and share results with various stakeholders
- Support the implementation of the models managed by the group
- Provide expertise and oversight to ensure all models are interpreted and used consistently and correctly across the bank
- Mentor and help develop junior team members
- Contribute to model development presentations for various audiences including credit officers, model users, internal audit and regulators
- Engage in a continuous and fluent relationship with different stakeholders: model owners, portfolio managers, model developers and external parties
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or an equivalent quantitative field (Masters Degree or PhD preferred)
- 12 years of model development experience (or equivalent academic experience). Experience building credit risk models for financial institutions required
- Expertise in statistical methodologies like regression, decision trees and clustering
- Advanced SAS and SQL knowledge (needed), R, Python (optional)
- Hands on experience in using complex statistical techniques to solve business problems
- Excellent written and verbal communication with a focus on detailed and clear technical writing
- Knowledge of regulatory expectations for model development and model risk management required
- Knowledge of Commercial Banking products preferred
- Knowledge of modeling methodologies used in HCR/CECL required
- Ability to lead complex projects
- Team player, prepared to work under pressure close to deadlines
- Can-do attitude, creative thinker with a proactive mindset

For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is $149,250 - $225,000. The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
