Position Summary: The Production Manager provides leadership and direction to the plant in areas of responsibility including administration, production, processing, packaging, scheduling, sanitation, quality, purchasing, safety and environmental. He/She works with the Plant Manager as the liaison between the Plant and other departments including Distribution, Human Resources, Health & Safety, Quality, Maintenance and State and Federal Regulatory Personnel.
How You Will Make Contributions That Matter
- Direct the overall activities of the manufacturing facility to ensure customer orders are scheduled and produced at the lowest possible cost to meet the customer’s requirements while maintaining established safety and quality standards.
- Monitor and maintain labor staffing accordingly to meet or exceed the labor cost per pound objectives.
- Monitor, oversee and improve the quality of the finished product by maintaining the equipment and facility in a sanitary condition to meet regulatory, customer, and company standards, by working with plant sanitation, Quality Assurance, and Chemical Company Representatives.
- Organize and plan optimum daily production schedules.
- Lead trouble-shooting and problems-solving efforts through the facilitation of team meetings and on-the-floor leadership to effectively change systems and procedures through the process of continuous improvement.
- Identify equipment downtime and machine problems and work with our maintenance staff to resolve issues leading to inefficiencies.
- Develop and maintain positive and effective oral and written communication with the Plant Manager, plant management team, supervisors and all employees.
- Maintain direct, hands-on involvement with each section of the production process from packaging to sanitation. This will involve working varied hours as necessary to become fully acquainted with all levels of the production process.
- Maintain a positive employee environment through consistent/fair practices and leadership in areas such as employee development, safety and training.
- Manage and provide strong leadership, direction, support and development to a team of eight (8) supervisors.
- Work cross functionally to improve plant efficiency and quality.
- Drive Food Safety initiatives with the plant management team, Corporate Operations and Quality Assurance teams.
- Work with Engineering to develop, provide justification, implement and achieve ROI commitment for capital improvement projects for the department.
- Develop a yearly departmental budget, in conjunction with the Plant Manager. Monitor and control departmental costs in comparison with budgetary standards. Measure/ focus on maximizing yields, productivity, controlling waste, labor efficiencies and monitoring spending.
- Support the plant’s safety process to insure a behavioral-based safe, hazard-free working environment for all employees. Take an active leadership role in plant’s Safety Teams.
- Maintain, adhere to and administer company policies and procedures in the areas of Human Resources, Quality Assurance, Food Safety and Quality Control.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
You Are Best Suited For The Role If You….
- Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent experience
- Minimum of five years supervisory and food packaging experience.
- Strong food safety, customer and quality focus.
- Understanding of costs related to manufacturing and packaging. Budgeting experience preferred.
- Ability to lead, influence, and motivate a large workforce through interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Must be self motivated, results oriented, possess a high degree initiative, and work well under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft office
