Summary of Position:

The SHMG Education Specialist is responsible for ensuring that technology and training needs are met by working with SHMG clinical and non-clinical staff to assist with the implementation of new technology as well as training new staff and maintaining competency in required skill sets. Responsible for providing training and technical support as well as assisting in the creation and editing of end-user documentation. Plans and leads training for areas relating to patient Access processes, clinical workflows, and assists departmental leaders in providing education regarding changes affecting job functions. Develops quality assurance programs to ensure that patient and financial data are accurate and complete.  Performs quality monitoring activities for patient access and clinical documentation and keeps directors informed of quality monitoring results and training needs.

  •  Provides patient access and clinical staff training for employee development and on-the-job-training across all applicable departments. Assists directors in assessing needs to determine training demands. Develops necessary quality/training tools and program materials.
  • Creates and maintains resource guides for all staff to easily access.
  •  Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops for appropriate staff
  • Conducts departmental in-service training and cross training in areas of pre-registration, clinical workflows, and other areas identified as high risk during quality monitoring
  • Reviews quality of user performance by monitoring quality of registrations, clinical documentation, quality measures, etc.  Documents performance deficiencies and makes recommendations to the management team.
  • Keeps director informed of all quality assurance/training activities through weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assists with developing new training manuals
  • Assists with maintenance of employee education files and competency checklists
  • Assists with administration of user enrollment in systems required for job duties, including HIXNY, Clear triage, Health commerce, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare or Associate's degree in Nursing; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Familiarity of medical terminology, computer literacy, including word-processing and spreadsheets
  • At least two years of progressively more responsible experience with an EMR.  Experience training end users.
