Field Assistant

Sargent’s is a 50 year family-owned business located in Rochester, MN and a leader in the green industry in SE MN. Over these 50 years, Sargent’s has grown balled and burlapped (B&B) trees as one of the many things we do related to landscaping.

SUMMARY:

This is a full-time seasonal position under the direction of the Field Supervisor. The position is mid-March through November each season with on-call snow removal required in the off season. Overtime will be necessary in the early part of the season each year and will involve some weekend hours. The objective of the position is to manage the B&B and large Grow Bag tree inventory that we both grow and buy in. Responsibilities are listed below.

• Planting, digging/harvesting and watering deciduous and evergreen trees.
• Caring for the fields where they are grown. Mowing, filling holes, spraying weeds, etc.
• Keeping B&B trees in the retail area stocked and watered.
• Prepping trees for the landscape department at least a day in advance of the jobs.
• Assisting with site management such as managing compost, burning wood waste, repairing greenhouses and other buildings, fixing irrigation, spraying weeds, etc.
• Assisting with garden center and landscape deliveries when needed.
• Must have experience with equipment operation and be able to become proficient on a skid steer loader and tractor within a month of starting.
• Ability to learn nursery planting and harvesting operations to industry standards.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured on Sargent’s company insurance policy.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

High School or Equivalent Education.

WAGE:

$18-$22 per hour
