Job Overview
We are seeking a Harness Engineer to join our dynamic Electrical Engineering Team. The successful candidate will serve as a harness design engineer with hands-on technician abilities to support quick-turn builds and prototyping of electrical harnesses for our autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) and related technologies.
\n- Design and develop electrical harnesses for ASV systems, including power distribution, signal routing, and cable management, to meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements
- Utilize CAD software and design tools to create detailed harness schematics, layouts, and assembly drawings, incorporating design considerations for wire gauges, connectors, shielding, and environmental factors
- Research, select and procureappropriate connectors, back-shells, contacts, wire, shielding, and cable construction for the product to meet appropriate environmental requirements
- Define harness requirements, develop specifications, and ensure compatibility with overall ASV designs
- Fabricate and assemble electrical harnesses using hands-on technician skills, including wire stripping, crimping, soldering, and harness bundling techniques, to support quick-turn builds and prototyping activities
- Perform functional testing and validation of electrical harnesses, including continuity checks, insulation resistance tests, and signal integrity tests, to verify compliance with design specifications and performance objectives
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to harness design, fabrication, and installation during development, testing, and field deployment
- Participate in design reviews and provide input to identify issues and drive design choices
- Document and maintainaccurate records of harness designs, specifications, fabrication processes, and test results, ensuring traceability and compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency in Rapid Harness and PTC Creo Schematic, or similar tools for harness design and documentation
- Proven work experience as a Harness Engineer or similar role, with expertise in electrical harness design and fabrication
- Strong knowledge of electrical wiring and cable management principles, including understanding of wire gauges, insulation materials, shielding techniques, and environmental considerations
- Familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS422, RS232)
- Hands-on technician abilities with experience in wire harness assembly, including proficiency in wire stripping, crimping, soldering, and harness bundling techniques
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex harness design and integration issues
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
