About the job

The Applied AI and Modeling is looking for a Data Scientist to use state-of-art advanced analytics software to design, build and implement innovative solutions for our customers. Our team creates containerized models and model packages, which utilize Artificial Intelligence to store and access domain knowledge, as well as Statistical Modeling techniques to process and analyze data. By working at the intersection of AI and statistics, AAIM solves real-world business problems in various industries. You will work closely with customers, software developers, account executives and pre-sales support professionals to meet the need of SAS customers.

You should have a strong passion for making this world a better place by solving industry problems with data science and enjoy spending your time and effort on sharpening your skills and extending your knowledge.

As a Data Scientist, you will:

• Build advanced optimization models and solution methodologies to provide decision-makers with data-driven insights that address business problems and objectives.
• Create clear and informative visualizations to effectively display large amounts of data and complex relationships. Translate data analytics into coherent reports and presentations tailored for both internal and external customers with varying levels of technical expertise.
• Prototype solutions using a range of resources, including SAS software and open-source tools
• Provide support and input for projects and initiatives involving analytical components
• Assist in conveying key analytical findings to stakeholders
• Help translating the business needs into analytical opportunities
• Manage the support and maintenance of assigned analytical models
• Research and select suitable operations research techniques and computational algorithms for addressing business or research problem

Role Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of solving practical optimization problems
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various technical backgrounds, think analytically, write and edit technical material, and relate Operations Research (OR) concepts and applications to both OR and non-OR users.
• Familiarity with multiple areas of OR (for example, specialization in mixed integer linear optimization with additional knowledge in metaheuristics or nonlinear optimization)
• Strong computational expertise with advanced programming skills

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
• Excellent programming skills
• In-depth knowledge of at least one area of Optimization Modeling (for example, mixed integer linear optimization, nonlinear optimization)
• Experience with practical implementations of complex optimization models
• Strong presentation skills for diverse audience, ranging from C-level executives to technical individuals
• Ability to identify and proactively solve problems

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience in one of the following industry verticals: healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, or logistics
• Experience with SAS software
