SUMMARY
Under the direction of the MS Clinic Supervisor and according to established policies and procedures, the RN performs the functions of assessment, planning, implementation, case management, and evaluation of the care of all assigned patient in the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. The position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and a high level of accountability. The RN will be accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer, Hospital Director of Nursing, MS Clinic Supervisor, and MS Clinic APRNs, and the patients and families.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
Assess and organize patient data as directed by the MS APRN.
Prioritized, plan, provide direct patient care, and provide follow-up care for MS patients.
Assist with hospital treatment room patients to include infusions, injections, and other treatment room needs requested by hospital nursing leadership.
Communicate with insurance companies to assist with obtaining prior authorizations for various tests, procedures, and medications. Ensure a prior authorization is in place before services occur.
Have the ability to communicate effectively and hold excellent interpersonal skills to provide care to clinic patients and families.
Relay pertinent information through appropriate documentation and referral to other health team members.
Maintain quality patient care following professional standards and administrative, nursing, and department policies and procedures.
Initiate, implement, evaluate, and revise patient teaching plans as needed to meet the patient’s learning needs.
Assist with writing the quarterly patient newsletter.
Provide an environment conducive to professional practice, maintain a positive attitude, and work closely with members of the clinic team. Participate in Quality Management initiatives, including quality projects specific to the MS Clinic.
Participate in department related and hospital wide committees, activities, in-services, and education. Some events may occur outside of clinic hours and occasionally on a weekend.
Participate in all safety, security, and infection control programs that are mandatory as wells as those required by the department.
Assimilate new clinical knowledge and skills gained from conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional literature into practice.
Work with various vendors to stay up to date on the latest treatment and medications related to MS.
Participate in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
Meet physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of the patient.
Respect the patient as an individual, identifying cultural needs and utilizing them.
Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times and report violations to the Privacy Officer. Maintain confidentiality at all times, both interdepartmentally and externally.
See that supplies are ordered from Central Supply as needed for the MS Clinic while being financially responsible and approved by the department manager while being financially responsible.
Work with all departments at SMC to provide high quality coordinated care and provide an excellent patient experience.
Understand and comply with the requirements of the Saunders Medical Center’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all Saunders Medical Center-wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Saunders Medical Center policy and as requested by the Supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduated from an accredited RN nursing program.
Three years of nursing experience and case management preferred.
Proficient computer skills and knowledgeable about Microsoft Word and Excel.

Registered Nurse Licensed in the state of Nebraska
BLS Certification
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions and possess positive skills in communication. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, and the general public.
Understand technical information from Supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals, and labels.
Possesses analytical skills necessary to organize workload according to patient priorities.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate at the level necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram or schedule form.
