We are seeking a Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED) for an Articulated Tug and Barge Unit. The QMED under the Chief Engineer's direction shall oversee the testing, inspection, maintenance, and calibration of electrical systems. The QMED reports directly to the Assistant Engineer and implements Safety Management System requirements.
Responsibilities / Job Duties:
- Assists the Chief Engineer and Assistant Engineers with the operation, testing, inspection, maintenance, and calibration of electrical systems, engineering, and deck machinery.
- Chief Engineer and Assistant Engineers with the operation, testing, inspection, maintenance, and calibration of electrical systems, engineering, and deck machinery.
- Perform the duties safety and efficiently of a rating forming part of an engineering watch when and other tasks as assigned by the OICEW, Chief Engineer, or Master.
- When transferring fuel, the QMED assists the Engine Watch Officer
- Participate in training drills and exercises Marine Management policy and procedural requirements onboard as relating to the position
- Accurately report and record maintenance related activities as requested by an Officer
- All Required National Endorsements and International STCW endorsements for a chemical tanker capable of foreign voyages
- USCG Merchant Mariner Credential international and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages.
- Submit a copy of your current MMC with your online application
- International STCW Endorsements: Able Seafarer-Engine (STCW III/5), RFPEW (STCW III/4), STCW Basic Safety Training (STCW VI/1), PSC (STCW VI/2), Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (STCW VI/6)
- National Endorsements: QMED-Any Rating, Lifeboatman, Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, Steward’s Department (F.H.)
- Tankerman Assistant limited to Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes PIC endorsement is preferred
- PIC endorsement in preferred
- Submit a copy of current USCG/STCW medical certificate, renewed every 2 years with your online application
- Submit copies of current valid TWIC card and Passport with your online application
- Other certificates and endorsements as deemed required for the operation and by Savage Marine
- For safety reasons, a COVID vaccination is required subject to the reasonable accommodation provisions of the ADA and Title VII
- High School diploma
- Maritime Academy graduate preferred
- ABS Nautical Systems NS5 experience preferred
- Physical ability as required by the U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certification (FormCG-719K)A
- Able to work, lift and carry loads greater than 25 pounds, climbing and descending ladders.
