This position is in support of Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership at the Gas Diffusion Plant that is located near Paducah, Kentucky. This posting is a multi-level position that is based on previous experience. Sawtooth Support Systems LLC may hire up to two Safety Specialists from this job posting.

**These positions are required to support the "2nd shift" Mon-Thurs starting at 8:00 pm - 6:30 am. Those candidates that are hired will begin working a normal Mon-Thurs day shift until April/May of 2023 before permanently moving to the designated 2nd shift mentioned above.**

Position Summary:

Under management supervision, the Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing and administering project safety programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health. Serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of occupational safety disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of occupational safety; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety programs, systems and procedures; monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area; investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards; conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs; provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; may provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. This position may require some shift work to support plant operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership at the Gas Diffusion Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment. This job description is not intended to include every duty, task or instruction for which an employee is responsible. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor’s request.
  • Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.
  • Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.
  • Attend work planning meetings to identify occupational safety hazards and provided recommended controls to execute the work safely.
  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and program compliance documents.
  • Establishes and maintains permits as required. Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.
  • Develops safety training programs and conducts safety training meetings as necessary.
  • Providing occupational safety support and services.
  • Assisting in problem-solving and requirements implementation.
  • Partnering with bargaining unit Safety Reps in helping resolve both project-specific and programmatic issues.
  • Conduct OS&IH field assessments, inspections and walk downs to evaluate conditions and ensure compliance.
  • Participating in critiques, incident investigations, and corrective action management.
  • Developing and implementing strategies in support of OS&IH initiatives/enhancements.
  • Supporting implementation of 10 CFR 851.
  • Assisting the Directors, and Managers, as required, in performance of Safety & Health related tasks.
  • Providing OS&IH oversight to direct and subcontracted work activities.

Qualification and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in a related field and a minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • US Citizen
  • Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership is a Federal Government Contractor with Sawtooth Support Systems is a Federal Government Subcontractor and therefore required to comply with Federally mandated COVID-19 safety protocols. Employees are required to attest to and provide verification that they are fully vaccinated or have an official medical or religious exemption will be required for review/approval
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a DOE badge for access to the Paducah Site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess the legal right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
  • Pervious DOE, or DOD experience. Certification in Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene through a recognized accrediting organization.
  • Experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing, or petroleum environment.
  • Board of Certified Safety Professional Certification.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft office.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $50,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
