What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at SCENT?
SCENT medical assistants provide patient care and therapeutic measures to patients by performing basic administrative, and clinical support services as directed by licensed healthcare personnel. They work under the supervision of a licensed medical provider nurse and/or licensed nurse and are required to follow HIPAA guidelines and OSHA regulations. Medical assistants are expected to serve in this function for all clinical sites throughout the SCENT organization. Medical assistants are required to acquire and maintain the skills necessary to perform their daily job functions. The medical assistant in the clinical setting is required to assist all medical providers and/or licensed nurses with patient care by carrying out the duties and responsibilities listed in detail below.
Essential functions:
- Routinely communicate with appropriate members of leadership regarding assignments.
- Review provider schedules and organize patient care by preparing patient charts and obtaining pertinent information essential to each patient visit. (diagnostic test results, referral notes…etc).
- Prepares patients for exam and treatment to include obtaining chief complaint, history, pertinent vital signs and measurements (weight, height, etc…), patient questionnaires (Berlin, Epworth…etc.)
- Collect and document pertinent patient medical information as outlined by organizational guidelines consistent with nationally recognized quality standards. (MIPS)
- Prepare exam rooms and clinical areas for patient care by cleaning and stocking.
- Clean, sanitize and sterilize instruments, equipment, clinical work area, and exam room furniture according to standard maintenance and infection control policies and procedures.
- Coordinate patient care utilizing available resources.
- Complete prior authorizations for patient medications as needed.
- Monitor and prioritize triage calls and respond according to organizational policy.
- Follow organization policies & procedures regarding the proper collection, handling, and submission of patient specimens.
- Abide by medication policies & procedures regarding administration, proper storage of medications, and destruction of expired medications.
- Contact outside medical providers and other agencies for referral appointments as needed.
- Carry out provider orders for patient care to include all tasks within the scope of practice.
- Assist providers with medical procedures and examinations as needed.
- Effectively communicate with clinical care team members to ensure safe, quality care is delivered.
- Assist with monitoring and ordering medical equipment.
- Assist with scheduling patients for appointments as needed.
- Assist with allergy injections as needed.
- Provide staffing assistance to SCENT sites as assigned.
- Attend meetings as scheduled and requested.
