General Summary:
The General Accountant I in South Bend, Indiana, reports directly to the Division Controller and is responsible for providing accounting support to all Schafer locations. The General Accountant will coordinate certain purchasing activities with maintenance, engineering, and operations personnel across locations. The position will be responsible for communications with certain vendors and assistance of Accounts Payable functions. The position will also review and record MRO transactions in the ERP and Payables system and be responsible for accurate accounting of MRO activities. The General Accountant will also perform other transactional duties in support of operations and accounting personnel.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and Account for MRO Activity
- Coordinate with internal personnel and outside vendors regarding MRO purchases and payments
- Ensure proper purchasing approvals and PO generation for MRO purchases
- Ensure accurate GL account mapping for MRO purchasing activity
2. Monitor and Account for Scrap Activity
- Ensure accurate accounting for scrap activities at the South Bend and Roscoe plants
- Coordinate South Bend’s new scrap process between Quality and Accounting
- Assist Divisional Controller with month-end close activities relating to scrap and other operations activities
3. Assist Accounts Payable Personnel
- Assist with implementation of new Accounts Payables system
- Assist with coordination of new Accounts Payables system, ensuring proper 3-way match and approvals for payables across all Schafer sites
- Assist with monitoring aged payables and outstanding vendor balance
4. Assist Scheduler with Creating and Assembling Work Orders
- Based on MRP results, release work orders in the MRP system
- Assist in ordering material from a local vendor if needed.
- Communicate with Production Scheduler / Material Planner if material is otherwise unavailable
- Assemble work orders and deliver to the material handler.
5. Assist with Outside Processing Activities
- Use the Open Order report to help the Production Scheduler track open purchase orders.
- Contact suppliers as need for status updates and expedite as necessary for ship dates.
- Update the dates in Visual to reflect the dates given by the supplier.
Skills:
- Experience in Accounts Payable and Office/Manufacturing Administration
- Ability to communicate effectively across multiple functions and locations
- Able to perform functions within ERP
- Proficient with Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business-related degree preferred
