SUMMARY Performs inspections and tests necessary to determine quality status, maintains gages and inspection equipment, coordinates workload and resource application by performing the following. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. The following duties and responsibilities are to be performed accurately, efficiently, within Company safety and quality standards, within specified time frames and as needed. Perform receiving, first article and PPAP inspections per ERP based sampling plans, and as requested by Engineering and Operations depts. Read part drawings or models and convert design specifications into inspection and test specifications using industry standard GD&T best practice. Accurately record, investigate, interpret and effectively communicate inspection, test and quality data. Perform periodic gage R&R studies and assist other groups with understanding gage contribution to process or product problems. Perform task completions and records maintenance via Windchill Independently manage material dispositions and transactions within Dynamics AX Assist with gage concept design and/or gage fabrication or modification. Add expertise to new model development during Phase Gate process to assure part drawings meet GD&T standards; review drawings prior to release for tooling. Determine work priorities and effectively manage workload to complete duties within demand and time constraints and in compliance with known standards. Interpret part designs and convert design concept/intent into inspection and test specifications Assist and advise Engineers and Technicians across the organization on process changes and modifications necessary to correct or meet form, fit and function requirements Work with department manager to identify training opportunities for salaried and hourly staff. With guidance from department manager, provide training as needed to identified individuals Conduct operator training on proper gage use and other related standards; including principles of calibration, inspection and basic quality principles. As assigned, support project based or continual improvement by performing process or product audits and report deficiencies, as appropriate. Utilize overtime to maintain task completion commitments, or as necessitated by business needs, as approved. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. EQUIPMENT SKILLS: Must have the ability to use a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM), optical comparator, hardness gage, height gages, micrometers, sine bars, thread gages and other related gages accurately. Preference given for ability to program CMM’s, or use advanced optical, visual or laser based measurement systems. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees and peers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Familiarity with industry best practices outlined in MIL-STD-120 and AIAG MSA, preferred. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Prefer ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently use hands to handle, and feel. The employee must occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is expected to follow all safety guidelines and wear proper PPE where indicated. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Prior experience performing advanced dimensional analysis and complete understanding of GD&T practices is required for consideration. Evaluation of these skills will be part of any screening process. Computer proficiency with working knowledge of word processing (prefer Microsoft Office), spreadsheets, email and web-based programs for reports/ISO documents. Self-motivated with ability to establish priorities and effectively manage time to complete multiple tasks within specified timeframes. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate in a professional, positive, courteous manner at all times with all levels of customers, clients, vendors, visitors and employees.
