The Commercial Support Manager – Catalytic Converters (CSM – CC) reports directly to the Vice President Sales and Purchases (VPNFS&P). The CSM – CC is responsible for the Commercial Support team for catalytic converters and their efforts to support and develop the commercial, operations logistics and sales teams efforts relating to supplier contract management, logistics, pricing and settlements for catalytic converters. The CSM – CC leads the Commercial Support Team (CST) in supporting the national commercial management for catalytic converter purchases. The CSM Manager and CST Staff will work with the Regional Facility & Operational Management to ensure all aspects of catalytic converter program are captured and understood and that the physical receipt, handling, processing, lot assembly , inventory, inter-company inventory transfers and ultimate shipment of purchased and assayed catalytic converters is accomplished in accordance with SSI Policy and Procedures. The CSG – CC will maintain technical knowledge on the catalytic converter business, including pricing and assay settlement review for the express purpose of ensuring compliance and standardization throughout operations. Some concentration will focus on actively seeking and implementing technology that will improve the catalytic converter purchasing efficiency and reporting.


This position operates within somewhat flexible parameters and works with the National Catalytic Convert Commercial Manager (NCCCM) to determine appropriate next steps. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of catalytic converter commercial operations. Providing the highest quality supplier and customer support for profitable catalytic converters purchases, safely, effectively and efficiently.


Essential Functions
:


  • Environmental, Health & Safety
    • Ensures all Schnitzer’s (SSI) Health, Safety and Environmental standards are strictly adhered to.
    • Communicates and reinforces SSI’s position on scrap catalytic converter acceptance in line with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.
    • Suggests and submits recommendations for improving safety and environmental conditions.
    • Encourages the reporting of any safety violations.
    • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.


  • Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
    • Manages entire catalytic converter assay purchase contract process from issue to final settlement.
    • Reviews supplier purchase contracts to ensure all commercial terms are correct and works directly with supplier on the following items –


  • Manage Supplier Advance process including estimating purchase value, gathering appropriate approvals, suppliers’ signatures and issuing payment
  • Manage and track supplier catalytic converter shipments by “lot”.
  • Manage supplier pricing request for each purchase contract. Including tracking hedge position for each contact on both the supplier and customer side
  • Works with NF sales team to match contract purchases to best sales contract/pricing terms.
  • Work with national logistics team to manage process as catalytic converters move from supplier to either SSI location or final customer. Providing feed back to suppliers on discrepancies.
  • Review final assays from customers to compare them expect yields from SSI catalytic converter repository or customer data.
  • Provide analytics and insights on supplier assays.
  • Execute final hedge and payment with supplier approval.
  • Reviews operational processes monthly and updates them as needed.
  • Assists in the preparation of bids for catalytic converters and the follow-up analyses of these bids.
  • Responsible for working with SSI Corporate affairs for changes and compliance to catalytic converter anti-theft laws. Responsible for creating, maintaining and distributing any new custom reporting on catalytic converters to support the commercial or operations teams and manages the tracking system for custom reports, which should clearly identify their origin.
  • Responsible for preparing, maintaining and distributing written policies and procedures while providing management oversight to ensure efficient commercial operations of catalytic converters
  • Works with operations to create a facility plan, by commodity, to optimize efficiency at the facilities.
  • Provides special reports as needed, which are to include reporting of Sales Open Order Status and hedge position for catalytic converters.


  • Inventory & Quality Control
    • Works directly with the scale operators to ensure the proper quality and quantity of material is supplied, inventoried correctly and that material flows into the facilities strategically.
    • Responsible for working with FP&A team to update, maintain and report on an annual basis the operational and logistics cost standards to operations management.
    • Tracks inventory discrepancies from suppliers and customers.
    • Manages CSG team to analyzes customers settlements for short pays and links them back to supplier purchases.
    • Provides the status of material purchases and sales histories to Schnitzer Executives and Regional management.


  • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Work with the VPNFS&P and the financial group (FP&A) to pull together data and validate assumptions used in the forecast and budget models.


  • Administrative Management
    • Monitors and maintains exempt and hourly staff at cost effective and competitive levels.
    • Monitors supervisory practices for self and his/her direct reports to ensure compliance with HR policies and union contracts.
    • Reviews performance of direct reports.
    • Interviews prospective management and/or production employees.
    • Works with Human Resources personnel to prepare job descriptions

Supervisory Responsibility:


This position directly supervises the Catalytic Converter Business Systems Analyst, and the Commercial Operations Support Specialists for catalytic converters.

Interpersonal Contacts:


Internal contacts include the local, regional and national Commercial, Operations and FP&Ateams; office staff and yard personnel. Communication is primarily face-to-face, by email and by phone will all levels of personnel including yard operations and management.

External contacts can include contractors, vendors or other contacts that relate to scrap purchasing and processing operations.


Job Conditions:


Office environment; occasional exposure to dirt and dust related to scrap yard environment. Work pressure can be substantial during peak times, requiring considerable adaptability; distributes of workflow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Some offsite work involves meeting in person with current or potential suppliers and customers as well as visiting other Schnitzer locations.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Ability to: lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally; sit for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; write by hand and keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; assemble papers, hole punch, staple, file; apply sufficient force to open and close file drawers. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Communication is primarily by phone, email and sometimes in person, with other departments within the Schnitzer Group. Visual acuity needed for close detail work, preparing and analyzing data figures, accounting, and computer use.

Qualifications:

Associates Degree (2 year) required; 4 year degree preferred. This position requires 5-7 years of related experience such as Accounting, Finance or other Quantitative or Analytical fields. Some recognizable metals recycling industry experience required. This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate an automobile.

The CSM – CC must have excellent supervisory and superior customer service skills. The ability to use Microsoft Office Suite is necessary. Ability to communicate with people at all levels, both orally and in writing, in a professional manner required. Proven mathematical and problem solving skills, and an attention to detail and accuracy a must. The CSM – CC candidate must also have understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Must be able to deal with problems involving several specific variables in or from standard situations.
