JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To serve as an educational support between Manatee district schools and the Exceptional Student Education/Student Services Departments for students with disabilities, students at-risk, their families, and community agencies in order to promote student success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Certification or certifiable in Exceptional Student Education or related field.
- A Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience working with students, including ESE students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Exceptional Student Education programs and services. Skilled in communicating and active listening. Skilled in problem solving and conflict resolution strategies. Ability to work well with groups, to organize and lead meetings, to provide training/workshops to school based staff. Skilled in written communication. Knowledge of and skill in compliance issues regarding Exceptional Student Education programs and paperwork.

SUPERVISES:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct and monitor initial placement staffings to assure that all necessary documentation is in place prior to a student being staffed and/or identified for Exceptional Student Education services.
- Act as designee for the Director of Exceptional Student Education/Student Services Departments and LEA representative for school based staffings.
- Function as a Child Study Team member as needed. Responsible for assistance to regular education classroom teachers in implementing appropriate interventions for students being considered for Child Study Team referrals and assist in providing classroom observations and assessments of students.
- Maintain and update a list of ESE students, their program placements, and other accountability data.
- Coordinate ESE transportation to meet with IEP requirements.
- Assist in coordinating articulation meetings for pre-kindergarten, fifth, and eighth ESE students moving to kindergarten, middle school and high school ESE programs.
- Provide parent information regarding parental safeguards, ESE programs, and community agencies.
- Work with school-based administrators to assess the training needs of staff and to provide training to meet those needs.
- Consult with Cluster Coordinator to address/report issues including class size, placement for ESE students, use of paraprofessionals and clerical assistants.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the ESE/Student Services Director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. Traveling in personal car from school to school on an itinerant schedule.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
