Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Camp Nurse to join our team for weeklong field trips to Yosemite National Park. As a Camp Nurse, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of students from a school in the peninsula who have various health conditions, including diabetes, seizures, allergies, asthma, and other medical needs. You will be responsible for providing medical oversight, administering medications, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with school staff and parents to ensure the well-being of all participants during the field trips. The Camp Nurse will be present and on-call for the duration of the following field trip dates:
- January 21 - 26, 2024
- February 25 - March 1, 2024
- March 3 - 8, 2024
- March 10 - 15, 2024
- March 17 - 22, 2024
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive medical care and oversight for students with health conditions throughout the weeklong field trips at Yosemite National Park.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians and ensure adherence to individual health plans for students with specific medical needs.
- Monitor students' health conditions regularly and be prepared to respond to any medical emergencies that may arise.
- Collaborate with school staff, teachers, and parents to gather pertinent medical information and create individualized care plans for each student attending the field trips.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including health histories, treatment logs, and incident reports.
- Educate and train accompanying staff on basic first aid procedures and proper handling of medical situations during the field trips.
- Be available and on-call 24/7 during the field trips to address any medical concerns or emergencies promptly.
- Coordinate with local medical facilities and emergency services in Yosemite National Park, ensuring smooth communication and access to medical resources if required.
- Promote a safe and healthy environment for all participants and assist in implementing safety protocols throughout the duration of the trips.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with an active license in the state of California.
- 1 year of professional nursing experience, preferably with experience in pediatric care, school nursing, or camp nursing.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of various health conditions, such as diabetes, seizures, allergies, asthma, and their management.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications, with the ability to handle medical emergencies confidently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, teachers, and camp staff.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accurate record-keeping and medical documentation.
- Ability to work independently, make quick decisions, and remain calm under pressure in emergency situations.
- A passion for outdoor education and a commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Compensation:The Camp Nurse will receive a compensation of $1000 per week for each field trip, along with accommodation, meals, and transportation provided during the duration of the trips.
