POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:
The Feed Mill Technician shall ensure SFI goals related to swine nutrition are met through safe and efficient manufacturing, quality control and delivery of feed and related products. As instructed, incumbent shall provide mill upkeep and proper biosecurity, inclusive of facility grounds. The Feed Mill Technician shall follow protocols related to the documentation, compliance and safety of the mill. Where grain operations exist as part of facility, individual is also responsible for general duties related to receiving, drying, and storage of grain operations. Hours will be Monday through Friday from 11 am- 9 pm. No regularly scheduled weekends, although ad hoc hours may occur.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mill site & facility operations
- Responsible for feed ration mixing per established schedules
- Ensure feed manufacturing and delivery processes meet SFI standards and objectives
- Ensure rations are manufactured and delivered in a timely and bio-secure manner
- Ensure and enforce bio-security protocols
- Receive shipments of supplies, ingredients and other goods, ensuring proper receipt and storage to maintain ingredient quality
- As directed, maintain and store feed delivery and manufacturing records
- As directed, maintain general upkeep and cleanliness of the mill and ancillary facility(ies)
- As directed, perform minor repair and maintenance on the site, including facilities, structures and equipment
- Maintain a safe work environment in all areas contained within the site, following SFI and regulatory safety protocols
Other:
- As required, attend product, safety and regulatory training meetings
- Identify bottlenecks and opportunities, and offer resolutions
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional rapport with other SFI employees, producers, third party vendors and contractors, including appearance and language
- Report escalated issues to appropriate supervisor(s) and/or personnel
Grain handling operations, where applicable:
- As assigned, general labor for all aspects of grain receiving, & storage including but not limited to the following:
- Weighing, grading and importing grain tickets
- Receiving and loading grain
- Communication with Supervisor regarding grain quality and inventory level concerns.

- Maintain and promote a safe working environment

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Position may involve travel and non-standard business hours
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing
- Able to lift 55 pounds with reasonable accommodation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience or demonstrated ability in feed manufacturing (and/or grain handling, where applicable)
- Prior experience and understanding of mechanical systems related to feed mill (and/or grain handling systems, where applicable)
- Ability to perform minor maintenance
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong understanding of a milling or pork production system
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism; able to represent Schwartz Farms in a positive manner
- Comfort with accessing electronic reports to interpret data to maximize performance
- Acceptable driving record
