Description
Examines patients with breathing-related conditions. The therapist provides diagnostic testing, therapeutic treatment, and life-support for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
Basic computer knowledge. Ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with a variety of professionals. Excellent written verbal and communication skills. Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research and best practices. Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment. Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources. Monitors, receives, stocks and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders. Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment. Disassembles, cleans and sterilizes equipment and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines. Performs Diagnostic Procedures: ABG puncture and analysis, ECG tracings, Holter monitoring and scanning, Conduct pulse oximetry, and Pulmonary Function Testing. Performs Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Performs Airway management. Performs Respiratory therapy treatments: Aerosol and humidity, Oxygen, IPPB, Administration of aerosolized medications, Chest percussion, Nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning. Initiates, maintains and discontinues continuous Mechanical Ventilation. Supervises activities of students and support personnel.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Graduate of a School of Respiratory Therapy.
Required Licenses
Must have a current Mississippi Respiratory Therapist license
Required Skills
Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRST) and/or as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Certifications
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
