Background:

Scottish Development International (SDI) is the Scottish Government-sponsored organization which supports Scottish companies to trade in global markets and helps international companies invest and thrive in Scotland.

North America is currently Scotland's biggest export market as well as its biggest source of inward investment.  SDI's footprint across The Americas extends to 6 locations.

Role:

Reporting directly to our Senior Vice President of Americas Science & Technology, the role is focused primarily on supporting our Vice Presidents of Business Development based in San Jose in identifying North American market opportunities for Scottish Life Sciences and Technology companies, and helping those companies generate business from North American customers. Markets of interest include exciting areas such as Digital Health, Pharma Services, Climatetech, Fintech, Agritech, Proptech, HR/Edtech, Creative Industries/Gaming, and Space. The role will also support the Senior Vice President on projects as needed.

What the role requires:

•            Full commitment to learning about Scotland's strengths and capabilities in the Life Sciences and Technology sectors; first-hand experience of living, working, or studying in Scotland would be a distinct advantage

•            Ability to research target markets and potential US and Canadian customers/partners relevant to Scottish companies

•            Ability to reach out to prospects via social media, email, phone and in-person to qualify the most promising companies and contacts for Vice Presidents to advance customer/partner relationships and directly when necessary

•            Working effectively as part of a project team, with colleagues in Scotland and the US/Canada to support delivery of visit programs, trade missions, and learning journeys for Scottish Technology and Life Sciences companies

•            Supporting Scottish Government Ministerial visits and VIP programs

•            Interacting with senior internal and external stakeholders

•            Being highly organized with a passion for achieving results

•            High level of initiative and self-motivation

•            Excellent written and oral communication skills

Qualifications:

•            University degree in Business or Sciences or a related discipline (but please note that this is not a scientific or engineering role)

•            Experience working in an international business/trade environment preferred

•            Experience in a customer facing Business Development or Business Consulting role in the Technology or Life Sciences sector preferred

Salary is $74,441 plus generous benefits package including 35 days for vacation/public holidays, comprehensive healthcare plan and more.
