Test Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE (TESTENG)

Develop product test and verification processes and equipment, for new product development and ongoing manufacturing. Participate in putting new processes in place to improve productivity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1. Develop and execute test plans and protocols for highly rugged electronics products, from concept prototypes through field trials, to verify they meet required performance specifications. This includes: lab/bench testing, product testing and environmental / accelerated life testing.
2. Develop specialized equipment and test methods to be used by manufacturing and suppliers to perform quality checks on final products and PCB assemblies.
3. Complete documentation of test equipment, schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly instructions.
4. Participate in creating Project Plans including Project Schedules. This includes estimating time required to implement various tasks associated with test development, establish milestones and meet those milestones.
5. Effectively use AMS's Product Development Process and industry standard product development methodologies and design tools. Test Requirements Document, architecture, high-level design, detail design, schematics, revision control, modular coding, code coverage testing, boundary testing, developer testing and product verification testing. Design reviews are conducted throughout the development process. Participate in the continuous improvement of engineering practices and procedures.
6. As an individual contributor, meet project objectives with innovation, creativity and good engineering practice. Design new, innovative product tests and enhancements/improvements to current tests. Seek new and better technologies and methods to increase test performance. When appropriate initiate putting in additional hours to stay off assigned project's critical path.
7. Deploy test equipment to the production area and to contract manufacturing facilities. Provide necessary training and ongoing support of production
8. Continuously improve skills required; seeking training through seminars, literature, industry shows/workshops and relevant course work.
9. Other assignments as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS (TESTENG)

1. High level of natural curiosity of relevant technologies.
2. Experience using formal Product Development Processes.
3. Demonstrated competence in LabVIEW, utilizing computer controlled instrumentation and data collection services.
4. Demonstrated experience testing highly rugged industrial / consumer electronic products.
5. Demonstrated experience developing test documentation.
6. Demonstrated experience in successfully transferring test systems into Production and providing Production/Sustaining support throughout the product life cycle.
7. Demonstrated success in designing robust test systems.
8. Proficiency in using various types of test and measuring equipment including: oscilloscopes, meters, logic analyzer, function generator, etc.
9. Work experience in ISO 9001 Certified companies.
10. A demonstrated interest in continuing education in relevant technology areas.
11. Medical product development a plus.
12. Excellent oral and written communications abilities.
13. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
