HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SUMMARY Scrap Metal Services, a commercial scrap yard is seeking a heavy equipment operator for its Blue Island, IL location.
This is a 2nd shift position : 2pm - 12am, Monday - Friday ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights including but not limited to front-end loaders, drop-ball cranes, material handlers, excavators.
Keep the yard clean. Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as other equipment, workers, or moving objects Perform daily inspections, safety checks, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment;
Cross-train in other positions and assist other employees as needed. Potential to perform general labor duties which may / may not include sweeping, raking, shoveling / snow removal, general clean-up of work area and equipment, and physically handling materials and supplies.
Other job-related duties as assigned REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES 3 -5 years operating heavy equipment in an industrial setting.
Prefer experience with : front-end loaders, drop-ball cranes, material handlers, excavators. Basic literacy in English Strong communication and time management skills Work with a positive attitude Ability to work with minimal supervision Reliability to report to work on time· Understand and follow supervisors’ directives (written and oral instructions) Flexibility to changing work conditions, assignments, and schedules Ability to work in all-weather elements including rain, snow, cold, and heat Comfortable working in an industrial environment ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MUST be able to pass drug screen and physical Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends and weekdays based on volume needs PAY & SCHEDULE This is a 2nd shift position : 2pm - 12am, Monday - Friday $23-25 per hour, dependent upon experience NOTE : The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required.
