Primary Purpose

 

The Multimedia Journalist Non-news is responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing local programming stories and sales-sponsored content for multiple platforms.

 

Key Activities

 

  • Receives assignment or creates and develops story ideas, content leads and tips for non-news local programming. Work with producers and hosts to create stories for local programming.
  • Videotape and Photography for a wide range of station projects, including local programming feature packages, tease bumpers, sales presentations, promotional spots and programming.
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation and research.
  • Work with clients, talent, account executives and Commercial Production with proficiency in EFP and studio productions to develop sales sponsored content. Work with engineering staff to operate Live Microwave Vehicles and all related videography equipment.
  • Organizes material and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards of specialized programming.
  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit video linear and non linear for a wide range of station projects, including local programming, feature packages, tease bumpers, sales presentation, promotional spots and programming. Familiar with digital based storage and servers.
  • Periodically appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration.
  • May report live from business or event.
  • Drive company vehicle on various assignments.
  • Write and produce quality stories for multiple media platforms and write and post content to the web.
  • Assist host at off site shoots.
  • Assist Local Programming producer in preparing show.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi-medial stories
  • Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as internet and digital channels.
  • Maintain Local Programming Video and Music Library.
  • Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Maintain photography equipment and vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as needed and directed by the Local Programming Manager, General Manager or General Sales Manager.

 

Skills

 

Education & Experience/Certifications

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Generally 2-5 years experience in related field with professional shooting and editing experience required.
  • Three to five years experience working in a commercial broadcast facility preferred.
  • Must be proficient at non-linear editing (Final Cut Pro).
  • Must be familiar with EFP shooting end editing.
  • Knowledge of SDTV and HDTV shooting/lighting preferred.
  • Knowledge of Final Cut Pro editing and After Effects preferred.
  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems or similar equipment

  • Must be creative, a team player and able to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and daily deadlines.
  • Must have good creative and editorial judgment.
  • Mastery of journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Lighting and editing skills must be broadcast quality.
  • Ability to create quality work on tight timeframes and deadlines.
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
  • Fully competent and productive professional contributor working independently on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments.
  • Able to work effectively with sales sponsored clients.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Sitting, walking and standing.
  • Flexible work hours required, including holidays, weekends, evenings, possible overtime hours and on call.
  • Must be available for overnight and weekend travel.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
