POSITION SUMMARY:                

This position involves the responsibility of performing operational functions that include the coordination and planning as well as communicating with the Equipment Operators to handle the receiving and transferring of heavy equipment. The job functions must carried out in accordance with general work instructions and established office practices, procedures and precedents.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Two (2) years of experience working on industrial site.
  • High School diploma is required. 
  • Clean valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment in English.
  • Ability to meet and deal effectively with the customers, executives and the general public. Well-developed interpersonal skills. 
  • Basic PC skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong self-initiative.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

Preferred

  • Maritime industry exposure.
  • Associates degree in Management or related field. 
  • Working knowledge of DOT, Hazmat and OSHA.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Responsible for reporting any damages to equipment and cargo the Insurance & Claims Department as well as coordinating the onsite survey of damaged equipment and cargo.
  • Prepares vessel stowage plan.
  • Segregates Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) accordingly
  • Assists equipment operators in resolving discrepancies between the stow-plan and cargo actually loaded onto the vessel.
  • Work closely with US Customs during cargo operation for each vessel.
  • Contacts TIR Clerks or equipment operators for relevant information regarding any problem that may arise with locating scheduled cargo or with replacement of scheduled cargo safely on the vessel.
  • Clear crew members with Federal authorities in order to enter and exit the vessels.
  • Coordinate pick up crew members from the airport and take them to the airport as needed.
  • Liason with vessel crew to prepare for vessel operation upon arrival to the port.
  • Deals all vendors to coordinate deliveries/supplies for the vessels
  • Notify all Federal Authorities (Coast Guard, Customs, Immigration and Agriculture) of the vessels ninety-six (96) hours prior to vessel arrival into Penn Terminals
  • Report if there are any stowaways or illegal contraband (i.e. drugs) to the Coast Guard
  • Notify all vessels prior to arrival into Penn Terminals of MARSEC (Marine Security) level in effect
  • Board the vessels upon arrival.
  • Clear the vessels with Customs, Immigration and Agriculture authorities.
  • Report all injuries/incidents to authorities and take the crew members for medical attention (hospital or local clinic)
  • Report any oil or chemical spills on the vessels to the corresponding authorities
  • Coordinates all vessel arrivals
  • Determine status of equipment for proper operations.
  • Maintain supplies for the equipment (i.e. tires, straps, chains, binders)
  • Provide logistics support to port operations in tracking equipment.

Secondary

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Reports directly to the Regional Operations Manager and indirectly to the Regional VP.  Does not exercise supervision over any position.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers. 
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear. 
  • The employee is continuously required to sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Report safety hazards
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage
  • Wear protective PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as instructed or necessary
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation
  • Participate in safety meetings and training
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoors office and outdoors interchangeably.  Exposed to controlled temperature environment while indoors and exposed to changing weather conditions when outdoors.
  • Drive automotive vehicle, occasionally required to bend.
  • Occasionally exposed to marked changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Occasionally exposure to dust, fumes and/or gases.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when located outdoors due to employees working (i.e. yard operations).  The noise level in the indoors work environment is usually moderate due to telephones and employees that approach the department.
