The Civil Designer II will continue growing in their role while focusing to further develop in the fundamentals of civil design as well as SW design, computer, and general office standards. This role contributes and supports the engineering team in master planning, engineering design, and research for specific tasks on projects. The Civil Designer II is expected to continue to further develop necessary drafting, design, and research skills to assist the engineers and project managers in the analysis of proposed and current projects. This position is encouraged to ask many questions of senior engineering staff. In addition, the Civil Designer II will be expected to help foster the mentorship of other Civil Designer I's and civil engineering interns. This position will continue to seek mentorship to better understand and analyze plan presentation, reliability, engineering design, project scopes and delivery timelines.
Essential Job Functions:
Work to developmental Client Contact Skills
Work to develop the understanding and knowledge of civil design as well as SW design, computer, general office standards
Contributes and support the engineering team in master planning, engineering design, and research for specific task on projects
Perform complete quantity take-offs and cost estimates of designs.
Assist engineers and project managers in the analysis of proposed and current projects
Prepare civil design drawings under the direction of senior engineering staff.
Perform hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations and engineering. reports (Drainage Report, Water Calc Reports, and Project Narratives
Prepare Comment Response Letter for Agency Resubmittals
Attend Pre-construction meetings and site visits with senior CA personnel.
Work to expand experience in witnessing installation, testing and inspections of site infrastructure systems (sewer/water system testing, proof rolls, SWPP inspections, etc.).
Review and comment on Shop Drawings and Materials submittals on projects.
Perform construction observations & field reports
Participate in Continuing Education/ Lunch n' Learn opportunities
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college/university preferred
Experience:
1 - 3 years’ experience; must meet and exceed expectations of a Civil Designer I
Desired Skills:
Must meet skill level of Civil Designer I, plus the following:
Experience in Microsoft Excel, Email Software, Calendars, and Deltek Vision
Demonstrate consistent Achievement of SW Billable Goals
Consistently Meet Task Deadlines related to Projects
Understanding of Project Scope and Assigned Tasks.
Understanding of Project Scheduling, Project Budgets, and project deliverables.
Demonstrate ability to work with others in a Team Setting
Understanding of SW File Management and Project Organization.
Ability to Coordinate with outside consultants involved in the project (surveyors, traffic consultants, architects, geotechnical engineers, MEP engineers, wetland consultants, etc.
Recognize important municipal and government agency officials as stakeholders in a project
Basic Knowledge of necessary permitting processes for projects across multiple different jurisdictions
Ability to Mentor fellow Civil Designers, Technicians, and Interns
Ability to Manage multiple project tasks
A strong desire for continuous professional and personal development and improvement
Ability to work independently to effectively manage time and work in a team environment
Full Understanding of specific SW Drafting Standards.
Working Knowledge of Design Software (ICPR, WaterCAD, Civil 3D, SEDCAD, HEC-RAS, Hydraflow Express, Storm Sewers, Microstation, Geopak, InRoads, IDEAL model).
Working knowledge of agency regulations and design standards for specific projects across multiple jurisdictions.
Ability to self-perform QA/QC reviews on work and better understand Civil and Landscape Drawings.
Efficiently prepare CAD Base Sheet Drawings from drawing files provided by surveyor.
Efficiently Prepare civil plan sheets sets for construction drawings with emphasis of proper plan presentation.
Ability to prepare Preliminary Plats, Site plans, SWPP plans, Grading/Drainage plans, Water/Sewer Plans, Profiles (road/water/sewer/drainage), and construction details.
Understanding of Civil Project Specifications and the production thereof.
Ability to Identify Problems and Construction Issues in the Field
Involvement in Companywide Strategic Initiatives and Committees
A valid driver's license
