Description
Our goal at SeaQuest is to ensure guests have a one-of-a-kind experience interacting with animals from all over the world. SeaQuest is looking for a Husbandry Lead for our Wildlife Husbandry Team who will enhance the guest experience by creating a warm, inviting, and energetic environment throughout the aquarium. As a Husbandry Lead, you will participate in all aspects of planning, developing, and managing animal care programs and maintaining enclosures compliant with USDA and Fish and Wildlife standards. In addition, you will be responsible for coaching Team Members to better serve guests and animals in accordance with SeaQuest standard operating procedures. Job duties and responsibilities are subject to change as the position may be altered to fit the current needs of the team and company. Team Members will also have opportunities to be cross-trained in other departments. Wildlife Husbandry Lead Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Bird/Reptile/Mammal department’s daily operations to ensure that the team is following the best practices for animal care, safety, and facility maintenance
- Plan, organize, and assist in the management of husbandry staff activities
- Follow and implement procedures to maintain the highest quality of life for our animals
- Successfully perform engaging and educational animal shows
- Lead animal encounters and behind-the-scenes tours for groups of up to 6 guests
- Assist with field trips
- Communicate department updates to the team as needed in the absence of the department manager
- Must be flexible and understand that your job duties may change from time to time and that you may be asked to help in other areas.
Requirements
Wildlife Husbandry Lead Requirements:
- At least two years of hands-on experience working with a variety of exotic animals
- At least 6 months to a year of experience successfully managing a team
- Knowledge of various species, including birds, reptiles, mammals, and insects
- Demonstrate a high level of organization in the workplace
- Be a strong self-motivator
- Effectively communicate information verbally and in writing
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time
Education:
- A degree in the related field is preferred but not necessary
