Job Summary:

 
The Director of Curriculum must have a sound educational philosophy, background, and vision grounded in Waldorf education. They must be committed to service to a diverse community, including children from poverty and English Learners. Further, the Director of Curriculum must have demonstrated leadership capacity to guide the school’s curriculum, assessment, teaching, learning, professional development, and student achievement, and an expressed willingness and plan to be accessible to staff, community, and students. The Director of Curriculum works closely with the Superintendent and school principals to develop the consortium’s Waldorf curriculum in alignment with Florida standards.
 
Minimum Qualifications:

 
  • Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Education Leadership or a related field from a regionally accredited university
  • Minimum five years’ successful/related teaching experience in K-12 schools and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years related management experience, experience teaching or as an administrator in a Waldorf School
  • Expertise and knowledge in Waldorf education with a minimum of 18 credit hours, professional development, standards-based instruction, and assessment.
  • Knowledge of Public Waldorf Pedagogy
  • Knowledge of child development (PreK-12)
  • Knowledge of public-school requirements
 

Essential Functions:

 
Educational Leadership
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Consults with coaches, staff and Board on program alignment to school mission and vision.
  • Leads school-based Coaches in planning and delivering professional development and model lessons. 
  • In collaboration with the Superintendent, coordinates and facilitates the work with Seaside Parent Councils around parent education, curriculum, marketing, parent education events, festivities, and parent agreements. Co-plans events and speakers with staff and parents.
  • Ensures that the SSC curriculum is aligned with the charter petition, state standards, and mission and is infused with Waldorf instructional practices. 
  • Participates in curriculum committee for SSC board.
  • Assists school administration in developing, implementing, and monitoring the professional development plan for the whole staff.
  • Assists in creating a Master Schedule aligned with the SSC vision and mission as expressed in the charter.
  • In collaboration with the Superintendent, Principals and Coaches, facilitates positive school climate and conditions through a robust professional learning community.
  • Meeting with coaches to ensure consistent curriculum implementation across campuses, identify curriculum needs, and oversee and manage the curriculum writing/editing team as needed.
  • Brings knowledge of Principles of Public Waldorf Education to the school community and leads the self-study process to work on becoming a full member of the Waldorf Public Alliance.
 
 

Faculty Support

  • Ensures through participation in PLCs and in collaboration with Principals and Coaches that teachers are implementing strategies and formats adopted by the school using and through Waldorf-inspired strategies.
  • Leads coaches in creating a support plan for teacher support through problem-solving, adaptive perspective, supportive feedback, and servant leadership.
  • Upholds healthy lines of communication regarding pedagogical issues among and between the faculty, board of trustees, parents, and the greater community.
  • Supports the entire community in understanding the Principles of Public Waldorf Education and how they manifest within our school’s mission and vision through timely follow-through, and accountability.
  • Works with the Superintendent and supports principals as needed to assist in the faculty-hiring process and recruitment efforts.
  • Works with Superintendent and principals to oversee the faculty support, mentoring, and evaluation processes regarding Waldorf instructional practices.
·  Attends Board meetings and Parent Teacher Organization/Association meetings as needed. 
  • Meets with Superintendent and principals weekly for communication and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Meets with coaches weekly to reflect and advise.

  • Commitment to educational equity and a passion for teaching and working with students, knowledge, and experience in meeting the needs of students with different experiences, languages, and backgrounds.
·  Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills
·  Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
·  Experience working effectively with parents.
·  Computer literacy and interest in learning new skills as necessary

Employees are regularly required to communicate verbally and in writing. Standing and sitting for significant periods is also required. Walking and reaching is required. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
 
Work Environment: 
Most work is performed indoors, with occasional outdoor work required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
