North Seattle College offers a vibrant learning community with a deep commitment to equity and student success. The Benefits Hub program is in partnership with United Way of King County (UWKC), with a purpose of helping students get the basic needs support they need so they can stay in school to complete their educational goals.

This position will have a multi-faceted reporting structure to a leadership team that includes the North Seattle College's Associate Vice President (VP) for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and Benefits Hub (BH) Champions. The NSC Associate VP for EDI, who serves as the executive administrator, and the Opportunity Center Integration Manager, the primary BH Champion, jointly steward and maintain the partnership between United Way and NSC for the BH program.

This position will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that Benefits Hub is a core part of the College's persistence and completion strategy for low-income students, particularly students of color, first generation students, and working parents,
  • Providing leadership and management of program operations and resources to ensure program effectiveness and that performance expectations are met, and
  • Supervising 3 to 4 AmeriCorps members who staff the BH program

We are seeking candidates who align with the colleges' mission, vision, and passion to serve, and who demonstrate commitment to promoting a climate of equity, diversity, and inclusion, including an understanding and demonstration of cultural humility.

This position is grant-funded and a temporary one (1) year position.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS.

What you will be working on:

PROGRAM PLANNING & OPERATIONS
  • Develop and maintain program plans / workplans; oversee implementation according to these plans
  • Implement strategies that meet goals to reach students and deliver interventions
  • Monitor site performance data; use performance data to guide actions
  • Coordinate data reporting
  • Produce high-quality monthly reports on site activities and progress toward goals for all stakeholders
  • Identify operational / process issues and implement solutions - including technology, scheduling, space, staffing coverage
  • Manage Benefits Hub budget for the site

TEAM SUPPORT & SUPERVISION
  • Supervise & support Benefits Hub team (up to 4 AmeriCorps members and others)
  • Ensure team has tools, training, on-boarding, and other support
  • Participate in team selection / hiring
  • Ensure that performance expectations for Benefits Hub program, AmeriCorps and North Seattle College are met by individual team members
    • Provide performance feedback and support, and conduct formal performance evaluations as required by AmeriCorps, United Way King County, and North Seattle College
    • Provide coaching & support to assist team members in succeeding in their roles
  • Approve time reporting for team members

SERVICE DELIVERY SUPPORT & FACILITATION
  • Attend trainings with United Way, including a mandatory orientation
    • Develop program expertise in preparation to administer all Benefits Hub interventions, as needed
    • Provide management and technical assistance to AmeriCorps members around project management and access to benefits.
    • Ensure that service intervention changes are well understood by team members; oversee implementation
    • Facilitate resolution of customer service issues and problematic / special-needs cases to ensure excellent service delivery to students
    • Prioritize addressing racial disparities in persistence, retention and completion

COMMUNICATION & CAMPUS COORDINATION
With BENEFITS HUB TEAM
  • Coordinate and facilitate North Seattle College Benefits Hub team communication
    • Plan and lead Benefits Hub team meetings
  • Oversee infrastructure and processes for students and internal audiences communicating with the Benefits Hub team (e.g. email, phone, web, and Canvas)

With NORTH SEATTLE COLLEGE SPONSORS & LEADERSHIP
  • Collaborate with Benefits Hub Champion and other North Seattle College leaders to increase access to basic needs support through Benefits Hub
  • Assist in organizing and planning quarterly Benefits Hub Steering Committee meetings
  • Participate in developing a long-term plan for basic needs access & support at North Seattle College

With CAMPUS STAKEHOLDERS AND PARTNERS
  • Facilitate relationship building and coordinate with on-campus partners and staff (e.g. Financial Aid / Emergency Assistance; Workforce Education; Advising & Counseling; TRIO Programs; Student Life, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion; Opportunity Center)
  • Ensure Benefits Hub has a prominent role on the campus and is equitably serving the target population
  • Facilitate integration of Benefits Hub into campus activities

With UNITED WAY KING COUNTY
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively and regularly with United Way King County
  • Participate in relevant United Way King County Benefits Hub meetings with others in like positions
  • Coordinate Benefits Hub service delivery additional agency partners (community-based organizations sub-contracted with United Way King County)
  • Understand and maintain compliance with all Corporation for National Community Service and Serve WA AmeriCorps requirements
  • Support efforts to increase funding for Benefits Hub, including participation in donor site visits, story collection, and grant reporting

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Completion of a 2-year college-level program of study, or two years of demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience related to the position's responsibilities.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with students and/or communities comprised of traditionally at-risk, marginalized, and diverse populations (e.g. first-generation, low economic, African American, Black, Native American, First Nations, Indigenous, Latinx, Pacific Islander, and/or Southeast Asian) in a service delivery role (e.g. social work, resource navigation, case management, advising / counseling roles).
  • Experience in a key role of leading others (e.g. supervision, program management or coordination, team or project lead, peer-to-peer mentor)
  • Experience with independently organizing, prioritizing and implementing multi-faceted work functions (e.g. use of project management tools / workplans)
  • Demonstrated strong digital skills and/or ability to learn and problem-solve with technology
    • Demonstrated capability successfully using Microsoft Office, as well as other digital applications and tools such as email, Google applications, virtual conference tools, calendar applications, webforms / surveys, etc.)
    • Demonstrated ability to enter, retrieve, organize and present data from computerized systems efficiently and accurately.
    • Experience using / accessing system-wide information management systems (e.g. Starfish, ctcLink, PeopleSoft, other databases)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
