On December 4, 2018, the NHL granted the 32nd NHL franchise to Seattle Hockey Partners. Two years later, we revealed the Seattle Kraken brand to the world. As the newest addition to the Pacific Division in the Western Conference, the Kraken continues to prepare for its first puck drop in the 2021-2022 NHL season. In addition to the redevelopment of Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle Kraken are consecutively building their front office headquarters and training facility with three NHL regulation rinks at the Kraken Ice Centre at Northgate. This development represents not only further investment in making Seattle the epicenter of the Pacific Northwest but establishing a skating presence within the city for the first time in more than 40 years.
Position Summary:
The Digital Specialist will focus on the Seattle Kraken’s digital content channels. The role requires building landing pages and articles on the content management system, uploading and embedding video, managing photo assignments and archives, updating and organizing the content schedule and serving as operational lead with Disney Streaming Services, the National Hockey League’s production vendor for team websites. The successful candidate will be expected to bring innovative solutions for maximizing user experience with existing CMS templates and expertise with SEO metadata and search engine. Knowledge of analytics and optimizing for the best results using experimentation, A/B testing and beyond is an advantage.
The Digital Specialist role offers the exciting and career-building opportunity to be part of generating story ideas for written, video and infographic content, participating in all plans for the Kraken’s 2021 Expansion Draft and inaugural season and embracing the added duties of assignment co-editor.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Senior Producer and content colleagues to develop short- and long-term content budget
- Manage DSS relationship and account fully.
- Build and place all content elements on website and other Kraken platforms.
- Serve as a copy editor as needed.
- Work with Senior Producer to create and sustain best-user experience across sports industry.
- Hands-on production of stories (text, video, photos, infographics) for high fan engagement.
- Point person for website and mobile news updates. Utilize the mobile alert feature through the DSS app.
- Contribute to effort to identify and grow target audiences.
- Work collaboratively with the social media team.
- Be a leader in search engine optimization for all content efforts.
- Help build out data analytics decision-making and reporting model for content.
- Facilitate, manage and improve online content delivery tools/systems and processes.
- Stay up-to-date with digital production best practices across sports/entertainment industry
- Strong storytelling skills and writing abilities.
- Be proactive about generating the most compelling content report.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- 3+ years of content creation and production experience.
- Working knowledge of NHL and the sport of hockey.
- Strong background in CMS management, basic HTML knowledge.
- Solid SEO understanding.
- Copy editing skills.
- Ability to work and be accurate under deadlines, will include work on nights and weekends.
- Experience building stories, videos and more in content management systems.
- Photo editing and archiving expertise is a major plus.
- Professional experience and success growing social or digital audiences.
- Applicants should have a detailed sense of the Kraken’s content voice and tone.
- Candidates should be comfortable learning new editorial systems.
- Proven ability to managing multiple projects, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be familiar with all aspects of content production, including SEO and graphics.
- Solid knowledge of digital landscape and next-gen fan technology and platforms.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing a plus.
- Excellent analytical and project management skills.
- Strong team management and communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
- Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.
- Must be a fierce communicator and cross-organizational collaborator.
Working Conditions:
- Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required
- Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
