Overview of Position
GENERAL SUMMARY
This job posting is for 2 Represented Bus Supervisor I-Special Education Positions, with a minimum FTE of 0.56 and a work year of 200 days. These positions will be within the SEA Paraprofessional Bargaining Unit.
The job of Bus Supervisor I - Special Education is done for the purpose/s of assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assists special education students and other passengers (e.g. during daily routine, emergency situation, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses including both normal transport and emergency situations.
2. Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining safety.
3. Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
4. Participates in a variety of functions, as assigned, (e.g. meetings, workshops, seminars, trainings, conferences, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
5. Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, daily activities, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
6. Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
7. Secures students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g. wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students, insuring students remain seated while the bus is moving.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties consistent with the scope of the position.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: safety practices and procedures. Knowledge of fist aid procedures.
SKILLS are required to perform single, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and operating equipment used in transporting special needs students.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; and working as part of a team. Ability to relate to, work with and direct Special Education students.

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the Organization's services.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment.
