JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Analyst in the Finance Department is expected to manage and provide support for SEEL’s Forecasting, Budgeting and Reporting for all programs (internal and external). This position is based out of our Detroit Office. In this role, the position will report to the Accounting Manager and will have a significant impact on the corporate financial reporting. Under general direction, performs a variety of complex technical and support services involving data review project coordination, department/unit budget maintenance, and other related duties. Also, responsible for creating, analyzing, and maintaining financial information for the organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and develop actionable analysis that will assist the Accounting Manager in identifying economically viable project models and provide robust post-activity analysis to ensure the business is continuously improving its new program budget development and design process
- Manage the program proposal budgeting & analyzes project costs & profitability for new business
- Research and compiles statistics and data for projects; prepares reports including statistical summaries and comparisons; assists in monitoring revenue and expenditures for projects
- Manages continual process improvement/projects using best practice models for defining, measuring, and analyzing the project improvement solutions and results.
- Create and maintain project set up and program planning and reporting in QuickBooks/equivalent accounting software
- Manage the escheatment process for all outstanding checks
- Program plan analysis; forecasting for profitability, cost benefits, and resource management
- Prepares reports for internal and external audiences regarding financial information.
- Recommends changes to current product development procedures based on market research and new trends
- Ensures that organizational goods or services consistently meet client needs.
- Develops and gives presentations to assist in program delivery and execution.
- Drafts and delivers client reports and communications on a regular basis.
- Advises internal teams on any relevant product concerns and may recommend changes to current product development procedures based on financial trends and reports
- Performs related work as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; or related 1 – 3 years work experience
- Experience proactively addressing and managing financial reports
- Experience with working with Executive and Senior Management
- Adept at listening in order to gather clear and complete information, and disseminate to others through excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication
- Solid judgment skills
- Team player with the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing work.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing activities
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Intermediate level in MS Excel for reporting and creating ad hoc reports
- Superior knowledge of modern accounting practices and procedures
- Knowledge of project analysis/cost modeling
- Expert knowledge of enterprise accounting software skills; training in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles “GAAP” and knowledge
- Proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and be self-directed
- Ability to work in cross-functional and matrix-managed teams to support management level finance goals
- Relies on pre-established guidelines, processes and/or procedures to perform job functions
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Ability to lift and carry a stack of forms and documents weighing up to 15 pounds
