Position: Life Skills Coach / Community Living Support
Location: Sunnyvale, California (In-Person)
Hours: The candidate will have option to choose 2-3 shifts as listed below based on their availability. The Shifts are listed below:
Tu-Th - 3:30pm – 7:30 pm
Fri – 1:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Sunday - 9: 00 am - 1:00 pm
Please note: This is a home-and-community-based direct support position based in Sunnyvale, CA.
Job Description :
Looking for a skilled support staff for an active 20 year old young adult living in Sunnyvale, CA who is on the Autism spectrum. The home and community support duties would include daily living skills, outings such as gym, local library, walks, other recreational activities, and social visits during the weekends. The desired qualities for candidates are: reassuring presence, calm demeanor, physical fitness and emotional strength, with the ability to respond to difficult situations and de-escalate them.
Required Qualifications:
Must be able to pass background check through DOJ
Must have authorization to work in the US
Proof of Valid CA Driver’s License and current Auto Insurance
Ability to travel to clients' homes or community settings.
Reliable cell phone communication
Punctual and on time to shifts
CPR certification is required
TB Clearance (recent) or Chest X-Ray required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to establish trust and good rapport and support the client with regulation and anxiety-management.
Strong commitment to promoting independence, self-advocacy, and social skills among clients
Need to presume competence - that means the life skills coach believes that the client has age-appropriate understanding and treat their client with respect just as they would to any other 20 year old.
Desired Qualifications:
Undergrad degree in psychology, speech language processing, education or another related field
RBT or BT certification
Experience in using assistive technology and alternative communication techniques such as letter board
Job Duties:
· Discuss and assist client in preparing a daily afterschool activity schedule.
· Help the client access fun and engaging leisure activities based on the client's interests including going to local gym, library, hikes etc.
· Support client with time management and general executive functioning.
· Develop and nurture other skills such as communication, carrying out simple conversations.
· Support clients with finishing homework from school classes.
· Help client commute to local community activities and social events.
· Provide support with transitions in a kind and reassuring manner.
· Collaborate with client’s parents and other support staff as necessary.
Required certifications or licenses: Current First Aid and CPR certification
Required Experience, including number of years: At least one year of
experience providing direct support (as described in job duties above)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 – 15 per week
