TITLE: Bookstore Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY
The SSC Bookstore Clerk will be a huge part of a small team serving a diverse population of students, staff, and visitors. While the principal duty will be assisting customers on the sales floor, this individual will also have clerical duties, as well as working collectively with Bookstore staff in the performance of various tasks. This position will be expected to work independently at times, such as when alone in the bookstore. May be asked to supervise student workers on occasion.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Operates a Point-of-Sale system
· Assists customers on the sales floor
· Properly accounts for transactions at the end of each working day
· Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
· Uses multiple varied computer applications
· Assists with textbooks rush, buyback, and SSC-sponsored events to include some evenings and weekends
· Merchandise processing and stocking
· Fills orders from various campus departments
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lifts heavy books on a regular basis
· Opens and closes the Bookstore in the absence of the Director
· Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
A. Knowledge:High School Diploma or equivalent and one year experience providing customer service in a retail environment are required. Experience in a college environment and/or textbooks preferred.
B. Skills: A general proficiency with desktop computers is essential; specifically, the ability to create, manipulate, and utilize spreadsheets and word processing documents. Should be able to run a cash register and make change. Excellent customer service.
C. Abilities:Must be able to: move boxes weighing up to 40 pounds from the floor to a height of 4 feet; manipulate small objects such as coins; communicate effectively with customers; understand spoken and written instructions.

Benefits provided by the college include Oklahoma Teachers’ Retirement, long-term disability, group health and dental insurance, and life insurance equivalent to two times the annual contract salary. A tax-sheltered annuity wherein the college contributes 3.5% of any employee’s annual salary is available after one year of employment. Employment is subject to successful completion of a background check. The filling of this position is contingent on the budget.
