PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To plan and manage the Floral Department so as to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.

NATURE AND SCOPE: Emphasis in this position is ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels. The primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, listening skills, reading, writing, math, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of pallet jack and knives and exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. The Owner named above or person in charge provides assignments and work direction.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Develop effective daily/weekly work plan based on weekly sales projections, budgeted labor goals and previous operating results

  • Analyze sales and labor projections
  • Plan promotions for weekly Ads and holidays
  • Determine work priorities and establish work lists in order to consistently maintain adequate department conditions
  • Determine work needs and write labor schedules in most effective manner to meet these needs
  • Communicate with direct report concerning ongoing department status, including successes, problems and planning

Implement and maintain coordinated, aggressive and creative merchandising plans, which maximize sales, variety and gross profit

  • Consistently monitor mix of demand and profit items, variety, movement and stock levels to properly order merchandise and meet sales and gross profit goals
  • Collaborate with vendors on up-coming specials and deals for seasonal and holiday buying and follow through on product quality, and accurate invoicing of products.
  • Ensure proper product quality, presentation and rotation
  • Create fresh floral and plant displays daily/weekly as needed

Supervise floral employees to ensure efficient labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives

  • Effectively communicate tasks and priorities
  • Follow up to ensure proper task completion and adherence to store and department policies and procedures
  • Monitor sales per man-hour and payroll, and adjust labor to production and work needs
  • Ensure customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all department employees
  • Ensure proper product handling to control shrinkage and waste

Manage floral department receiving, invoicing, pricing, shrink control and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met

  • Supervise and assist to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving function
  • Process invoices accurately and timely, check credits and transfer slips for accuracy
  • Take accurate inventory
  • Collaborate with pricing department to ensure department pricing and signing is accurately maintained for all items and monitor price sensitive items in market

Supervise department safety and sanitation programs

  • Ensure all employees are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures
  • Ensure no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment
  • Ensure employees use personal protective devices (safety glasses, cut resistant gloves) as required
  • Conduct department inspections and maintains safety checklist

Perform floral department personnel functions

  • Ensure all new employees are properly trained to ensure competence in position and for possible future development
  • Conduct and ensure all probationary and regular performance reviews are completed
  • Provide individual and group guidance and encouragement toward department objectives
  • Recommend and administer corrective actions as appropriate
  • Communicate and work with Human Resources and direct report as appropriate to above functions

Create customer orders

  • Provide courteous, prompt and accurate customer service
  • Determine type, style and price of arrangement desired
  • Design arrangement according to order and Sendik’s Fine Foods standards
  • Package order
  • Coordinate orders that request delivery

Receive and price as necessary all plants and fresh flowers supplied

  • Check shipment for content and quality
  • Verify delivery to invoices and signs for product
  • Strip, cut, condition and price flowers properly
  • Create daily/weekly bouquet and arrangement recipes/designs
  • Follow retails and prices for all product and put on display
  • Ensure proper pricing in all store and department systems

Maintain Walk-in Customer Cooler

  • Monitor and rotate stock levels for freshness daily
  • Keep fresh cut flower and bouquet displays looking full and fresh at all times
  • Maintain fresh arrangements so that displays are full and offer a nice selection of price points
  • Floors should be swept and cleaned of debris and slip hazards
  • Keep cooler doors clean and free of dirt and smudges

Maintain Floral Supply Cooler

  • Keep product well organized for maximum functionality
  • Product should be checked and rotated daily for freshness
  • Floors should be swept and cleaned of debris and sip hazards

Maintain Green and Blooming Plant Displays

  • Monitor all plants for water and care daily
  • Remove dead leaves and blooms
  • Keep displays looking full and clean of debris

Follow all store and department policies and procedures

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical

  • Lifting/carrying up to 80 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 2000 lbs.
  • Equipment operation (telephone, shopping cart, pallet jack, flat bed, pricing gun, cutting or trimming knives, clippers, chopper, pruners, wire cutter, steel pick machine, heat gun, watering can, ladder, plant hook, rack, scissors, calculator)
  • Reaching, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, sitting, standing, walking, climbing ladders, crawling)
