Sentara Medical Group is now seeking a Genetics Counselor in Norfolk, VA!
The Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling services to patients and their family members under the direct supervision of the Physician. Serves as a consultant for the Cancer Risk Assessment and Genetic Counselor Program to Sentara Physicians, peers, and geneticists regarding highly specialized genetic testing and follow-up within Sentara Medical Group, as well as other participating Sentara divisions. Serves as a liaison between Administration, Clinical Staff, and Laboratory. Functions as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on the medical specialty of cancer genetics with additional clinical management, administrative, and/or research responsibilities. Provides leadership and education to patients, family members, Physicians, other health care providers and administrative staff. Works with Physicians and other clinical staff in teaching and community outreach efforts around the genetic aspects of hereditary cancer syndromes. Participates in program development opportunities within local and regional communities.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Human Genetics and/or Genetics Counseling required
- ABMG or ABGC required within 1 year of hire
