The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
We are seeking candidates for the position of Track Maintainer-2nd Cl (1202) in the EM&C MOW/Track Department.
SEPTA currently requires all new employees to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination at their pre-employment medical appointment.
- Starting Pay Rate: $32.03/hour - After 48 Months: $35.59, based on applicable contract.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Performs inspection of an assigned area of track under traffic including bridges, trestles and highways, performing functions. Loads and unloads material and equipment, sets up equipment and performs welding and emergency repairs when required.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs inspection of an assigned area of track under traffic including bridges, trestles and highways, performing functions.
- Sets up equipment and performs welding when required.
- Directs the loading and unloading of material and equipment ensuring the proper rigging for the lifting and securing of the equipment and material.
- Monitors the repair, renewal and construction of track, special work, and third rail, insuring compliance with SEPTA standards.
- Directs and monitors the operation of such equipment as the grinding car, geometry car, production tamper and sperry car.
- Performs emergency repairs when needed.
- Can be assigned to perform any type of track work related duties such as flagging, track maintenance, cleaning, etc.
- Performs and directs erection of temporary lighting.
- Performs snow and ice work as required.
- Performs and directs paving operations.
- Trains and instructs lower classifications in line of progression.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have valid driver's license.
- Must have experience in track layout, work methods, routines, and materials used.
- Must have experience in the inspection and diagnosis of track defects and third rail defects and conditions.
- Must satisfactorily complete written qualifications and performance tests as required.
