The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
We are seeking candidates for the position of Underground Maintainer-Trainee (0745) in the Operations/Maintenance of Way (MOW) Division
SEPTA currently requires all new employees to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination at their pre-employment medical appointment.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs routine tests, installs and repairs underground cable and devices, sets up work site rigging and scaffolding, and performs various bricklaying and minor blacksmithing functions.
Compensation Data
Starting wage rate: $18.95/hr. Increase to $22.11/hr. after 1 year
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install and repair underground cable and devices.
- Make routine tests of DC feeders and special work bonds; to connect and check safety cable during conduit removal renewal; to assist in phasing out AC cables, etc.
- Perform rigging and scaffold work; to manufacture brackets, temporary jumpers, and hangers; perform minor blacksmith work.
- Performs various bricklaying, including construction or brick piers and walls of manholes in a finished manner.
- Determines repairs needed; requests necessary materials, makes written report of tests performed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED.
- Technical training in relevant area.
- Experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of power cables; rail bonding and related accessories desirable.
- Must have valid PA driver's license or equivalent.
- Must be able to work various shifts.
