Job Description
We are looking for a motivated and agile Bioinformatics scientist to develop and implement software, perform analyses, and develop reporting solutions for pre-clinical and clinical CRISPR gene editing applications. Such applications will include sgRNA evaluation, on- and off-target mutation and rearrangement analysis, research on population scale target profiling, and development of machine learning models to characterize and predict gene editing outcomes, for example.
Responsibilities
- Develop bioinformatics pipelines by integrating and extending existing bioinformatics and next-generation sequencing (NGS) tools
- Implement cloud-based computational infrastructure for secure data storage, robust and reproducible pipeline execution, and interactive computational biology analyses
- Interact effectively with cross-functional teams, including research, clinical and lab scientists to develop assay and computational capabilities in tandem
- Help the company understand FDA policy and guidance in the bioinformatics area relevant to the regulation of cell and gene therapy products
- Adhere to timelines, design controls & best practices for software development.
- Establish a culture of engagement, innovation, and continuous improvement,
- Stay current with new bioinformatics analysis tools and software technologies,
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field, or Master’s degree with at least 2 years of industry experience
- Demonstrated experience in successfully performing bioinformatics analysis and/or software development using best practice approaches.
- Strong bioinformatics skills in genomics, specifically involving NGS sequence analysis for amplicon, exome, and/or whole genome sequencing.
- Off-target assessment using methods such as GUIDE-Seq and CIRCLE-Seq is a big plus.
- Experience with performing interactive analysis and/or deploying bioinformatics pipelines on cloud compute resources (Google Compute Platform, Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure).
- Experience with a variety of programming languages. (preferably R, Python, WDL/CWL)
- Experience in developing visualization tools using RShiny or similar methodology
- Experience with containerization tools (preferably Docker).
- Best-practice software development experience (e.g. git, unit testing)
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiar with the CRISPR technology and its related bioinformatic challenges
- Experience with statistical and/or machine learning methods
- Experience with CRISPR software for guide design, off-target nomination or NGS
- Experience with High-Performance Computing environments (e.g. SLURM, SGE, LSF)
