Position Description
Join Serco as a Junior Test Engineer position. You will be part of a team evaluating and managing the design, construction, testing, and delivery of ships and landing craft to the fleet and sustaining existing fleet assets. Our team is led by a Program Manager and Deputy Program Manager, each having decades of experience working in the DoD and Shipbuilding Industry. Our Naval Acquisition and Sustainment Operation, which is part of Serco's Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) business, provides critical services to nearly all U.S. Navy surface ships and craft, supporting new construction, repair, maintenance, modernization, and sustainment.
This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level clearance post-employment.
You will work closely with Test and Evaluation (T&E) Principal Assistant Program Manager (PAPM), Deputy Principal Assistant Program Manager (DPAPM), Post-delivery Test and Trials (PDT&T) Manager, Hull Test Manager, leads from various Warfare Centers, NAVSEA, shipyards, and support contractors for the overall successful accomplishment of pre- and post-delivery test events. In this role:
- You will assist the Government Amphibious Warfare Program Office deliver new ships to the fleet. This may include:
- Assist in coordinating all test related meetings with ship’s force.
- Prepare daily/weekly PDT&T situation reports/briefs and deliver to the PDT&T Manager.
- Functions as the PDT&T point of contact (POC) in regards to the Certification Coordination Plan.
- Coordinate with Hull Test Manager and track emergent maintenance repairs that may impact PDT&T events.
- Track problem reports generated from test events with ship’s force and PDT&T Team.
- Participate with government, civilian and military subject matter experts (SMEs) to define, develop, and perform Systems Engineering tasks in support of PDT&T.
- Assist in developing and maintaining ship class post delivery schedules to meet test and trial requirements.
- Coordinate Test Leads for the scheduling and performance of all PDT&T efforts.
- Supports the administration of the PDT&T Program.
- Schedule and host PDT&T TELCONs.
- Provides support in the production and tracking of all PDT&T deliverables: process book, test plans, readiness reviews, final reports.
- Support the daily operations of all post-delivery tests.
- Works with Test Leads and Hull Manager on new Problem Reports discovered.
- POC assigned to coordinate PDT&T ship riders, deconflict issues with other ship riders.
- Coordinate multiple tasks for Post Delivery team as required; this includes, but is not limited to emergent tech assists, responding to emergent data calls and ship requirements (tech reps via helos, etc.), tracking all Post Delivery Problem Reports, feed Post Delivery issues & lessons learned back to Technical & Production Teams, organize all PDT&T meetings (test readiness review (TRR), teleconferences, ordnance reviews, post-test reviews, etc.)
- Participates in the development and execution of Ship Class PDT&T events, Combat System studies and assignments, underway replenishment (UNREP), Aviation, RCS, and EMC.
- Provide assistance to various PDT&T and Hull Test Manager’s tasking.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Bachelors professional engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university with 0-2 years of relevant experience. Professional experience can be substituted for an engineering degree if 5 or more years of specific work experience can be demonstrated in an analogous or higher-level position. Relevant experience is professional experience of essentially the same scope and complexity.
- A current DoD security clearance or be able to obtain an interim clearance shortly after hire.
- United States (U.S.) citizenship.
- Ability to operate personal computers and have good knowledge and operational abilities with Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility. Some work may occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair, and/or underway trials. Walking and climbing throughout the ship, to accomplish ship checks, may be required. Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights, or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
- Ability to travel 50% to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility or onboard ship while underway.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is desired.
- Relevant U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard experience in the areas of ship construction or ship repair is desired.
- Relevant Amphibious warship ship and/or craft experience is ideal.
