Job Title: Major Gifts Officer
Department: Office of University Advancement
Reports To: Effective: Status: Chief Advancement Officer Jun 1, 2023 Exempt
Job Purpose: The Major Gifts Officer in the Office of Advancement at Southeastern University will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program to secure major gifts ($10,000 and above) from individuals. The successful candidate will be a strong relationship builder who is able to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors. The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Chief Advancement Officer and will be a key member of the University's fundraising team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts from a portfolio of assigned and acquired prospects and donors
- Plan and execute effective major gift solicitations and stewardship activities
- Collaborate with other advancement staff, academic and administrative leaders, and volunteers to maximize fundraising opportunities
- Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor activities and interactions using the university's fundraising database
- Travel locally, regionally and nationally to meet with donors and prospects Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, or a related field
- Proven track record of success in securing five and six-figure gifts from individuals
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques and experience with fundraising databases
- Fundraising background in a higher education academic setting is a preference but not required
