JOB TITLE: Director Digital Print SUPERVISES: Digital Pressroom and Bindery Employees, including Assistant Manager, Digital


JOB SUMMARY: Manage all work as it proceeds through the Digital pressroom and bindery. Manage production in the department, responsible for productivity, quality, timeliness, and cost control of work in the pressroom. Assign work and give instructions to personnel. Plan, organize, influence and control issues related to efficient pressroom processes and effective personnel. Work cooperatively with all production supervisors and project managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Address safety and OSHA standards,

  • Participate on safety teams.
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

2. Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.

  • Develop list of required paperwork and documents, including QSPs and SOPs.

3. Order supplies for department as needed.

  • Develop list of department supplies.

4. Attend daily production meetings.

5. Prioritize, help schedule the workflow through the department and delegate work assignments, and directly manage the pressroom department to ensure the production of the highest quality products while controlling costs and meeting company standards for quality and performance, as well as customer specifications and delivery requirements.

  • Spot check the work done by the department personnel.
  • Develop and document department systems, procedures, forms and policies to achieve department goals.
  • Use data collection system to evaluate data.
  • Schedule vacations in the department.

6. Ensure the maintenance of equipment is in proper operating condition to minimize maintenance costs and down time to maintain quality tolerances.

  • Schedule time for routine maintenance.
  • Develop preventative maintenance program.

7. Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the company's standards for quality and safety.

  • Create cross training plan to ensure skills sets match across shifts.
  • Provide on-the-job training in specified circumstance.
  • Plan and hold department team meetings.
  • Provide regular feedback to employees throughout the year, and complete annual written performance reviews with all pressroom employees.

8. Keep abreast of new methods, processes and procedures to keep up-to-date.

  • Recommend changes or improvement in equipment.

9. Work closely with human resource manager on HR issues, including but not limited to: hiring, promotion and termination issues.

10. Keep management informed on general conditions and on matters of importance which could impact quality, cost, safety, or employee morale.

11. Reinforce all company rules and policies consistently, especially regarding safety devices & procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, degree in management or business a plus.
  • Trade or vocational school training helpful, equipment manufacturing training preferred. Safety training as required by OSHA regulations. Operation of the SG360 Data Collection System, and all documents used in the Digital Pressroom and Bindery. Application of SG360 policies, procedures and regulations related to personnel or operations.
  • Must have strong knowledge of operation, set up and maintenance of all press systems, auxiliary equipment, digital, and bindery equipment, specifically IBM, Kodak, Xerox iGen, Oce or HP Indigo machines.
  • Superior knowledge of press systems and controls and bindery equipment. Superior knowledge of the technical aspects of the printing and bindery process.
  • Above average English oral and written communication skills and math skills. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to anticipate, analyze, and solve press and personnel problems.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Ten to fifteen years of experience in a digital printing facility, at least five years of Digital Operator/Pressman experience.
  • Solid working knowledge of and experience in bindery operations.
  • Prior experience as a Pressroom Shift Supervisor helpful.
  • Must have above average computer skills in file-to-print process.
  • Color printing experience, preferably 4-color.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Environment is a printing and manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, ink, solvents, vapors, moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.
  • Requires frequent bending, standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to exert 10 to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • Requires standing and walking on a concrete floor.
