What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at SHAREHOLDER?

Bristol Bay Native Corporation is currently seeking two dedicated Camp Counselors to join our team! As a Culture Camp Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe and enriching environment for our campers. Your responsibilities will include supervising campers, monitoring their behaviors, and ensuring their overall safety throughout the duration of the camp. Additionally, you will assist in delivering culturally relevant instruction, focusing on traditional subsistence activities unique to the Bristol Bay region. We are thrilled to announce that Culture Camp is scheduled to take place July 25th – 31st within the beautiful Bristol Bay region! While we eagerly anticipate this enriching experience, please note that the exact location is yet to be determined. Dates: June – July (part-time): Coordinate with the Camp Director to prepare for camp. July 25th – 31st: Stationed at camp to assume Camp Counselor duties. August 1st – 11th (tentative to change): Camp debrief. Essential Duties & Job Functions: Supervision of campers during camp activities, monitoring behaviors and enforcing code of conduct and camp rules. Lead, teach, assist, and/or participate in daily camp activities. Maintain high safety and health standards, ensuring established safety protocols are adhered to. Understand all emergency procedures and be prepared to act in the event of emergencies such as natural disasters, missing persons, wildlife encounters, fire, and weather events. Demonstrate a positive attitude and act as a role model for campers.   Assist in all aspects of camp set up and break down. Complete all required training prior to travel to camp. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 18 years of age. Prior experience working with youth in camp, school, or related programming. CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to acquire certification prior to the start of camp. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, nursing, or another related field. Experience in outdoor and wilderness activities. Valid Driver’s License. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: An understanding of Dena’ina, Sugpiak/Alutiiq, or Yup’ik languages, customs, and traditions.  Knowledge of cold-water safety and ability to swim. Familiarity with the Bristol Bay region, its people, geography, and history. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions and remain composed under stressful circumstances. Ability to work well individually and collaboratively. Work Environment: Travel to a remote Alaskan campsite. Camping in tents in a variety of weather conditions. Long and irregular working hours. Working and living in close quarters with others in remote location. Physical Requirements: Ability to travel to rural locations within Alaska via small aircraft and boats. The work environment will require hiking, hauling, lifting, and carrying. Physical ability to respond and assist in emergency situations. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.   Hiring preference will be given to BBNC shareholders, their spouses and descendants, and Alaska Natives in accordance with Public Law 93-638.   Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a satisfactory background screening.
