$31.495 - $40.639 - $49.783
The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
Under leadership (when necessary), plans and administers assigned exercise physiologist functions and duties. Assesses, implements, and evaluates exercise prescriptions for cardiac inpatients and outpatients. Facilitates multidisciplinary approach to patient care and attainment of department goals.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology with emphasis in Exercise Science.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 Year Experience in Cardiac Rehabilitation
- ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association -PREFERRED
- Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) - American College of Sports Medicine -PREFERRED

Attends at least 8 episodes of patient conferences (meets standard).
Attends or participates in at least two (2) of the following (meets standard):
Participates in a formal in-service that uses adult learning principles, and is at least 30 minutes in length (submitted documentation must include preparation, presentation and evaluation).
Participates in two mini in-services 15 minutes in length, with documentation of attendance and objectives completed on attendance record.
Assists in development and implementation of educational programs and learning aids for patients.
Educates patients regarding exercise program and safe use of equipment.
Assists in development, implementation and evaluation of patient care guidelines/standards.
Participates in a minimum of two mock codes.
Participates in planning a conference. - Department policies and procedures
Under leadership (when necessary), assesses patients for exercise therapy utilizing patient, family, staff and other resources to gather patient information.
Identifies and reports abnormal findings to appropriate staff.
Assesses patient/family level of understanding.
Under leadership (when necessary), develops written exercise plan of care and communicates plan to patient and staff.
Establishes realistic exercise outcomes.
Demonstrates knowledge of exercise principles.
Evaluates and revises patient's exercise plan of care based on continuous assessment and attainment of stated goals.
Involves patient/family in development and revisions of plan of care.
Implements exercise prescription accurately, ensuring safe exercise.
Performs exercises with patients, demonstrating correct body position, prevention of injury, and use of equipment.
Collects data of blood pressure and protocol measurements accurately during exercise session.
Sets priorities for care.
Explains exercise procedures to patient/family.
Seeks assistance with unfamiliar situations.
Manages caseload with appropriate reporting and follow-up.
Completes skill roster and competency education and maintains guidelines of care as provided in the initial orientation.
Completes all competencies in a timely manner.
Promotes safe patient care through assisting in development and implementation of action plans for identified problems. - Documentation
Documents exercise assessment in patient record.
Documents exercise plan in patient record.
Documents exercise intervention in patient record.
Documents evaluation in patient record.
Documents and reports overt and covert signs and symptoms that indicate risk situations.
Records home exercise prescription or stress test evaluation (when available) to indicate patient assessment for outpatient program.
Records patient status and any pertinent medical history on initial assessment, daily documentation and/or progress notes.
Marks Target RPE or Target Heart Rate on patient's chart.
Records a written education plan at discharge on IPER and/or on final daily documentation.
Reflects actual exercise activities and plan on patient exercise daily charting.
Indicates evaluation and changes in outpatient exercise progression through recorded information on daily charting, exercise log and progress notes.
Records "follow-up" telephone evaluation with patient 6 months post discharge on Ph II Patient Follow-up form. - Leadership
Participates in changes of policies and procedures, unit protocols and patient care guidelines.
Provides input in unit goal setting.
Practices cost-effective use of staff and supplies.
Participates in at least one of the following: unit committee, unit project, quality assessment and improvements, or unit policy revisions.
Complies with safety standards, identifying and reporting any variances as described by organization/unit/department policy.
Follows through on assigned duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Possesses the understanding and the ability to apply exercise principles to a variety of adult patient populations including cardiac, vascular, renal, diabetic, obese, and others.
- Possesses knowledge of pathology, symptoms, and treatment for cardiac disease.
- Possesses ability to perform exercise testing parameters such as body fat, heart rate, and blood pressure.
