SUMMARY:
Shawmut Services is seeking canvassers to participate in the organization’s door knocking program that is aimed to inform parents about Roxbury Prep. Roxbury Prep is a free public school serving grades 5 through 12 in Boston, MA. Across four schools, students are preparing to achieve their dreams. As a canvasser, you will travel door to door in the community to talk to parents about enrolling their children in Roxbury Prep. You will be responsible for having a certain number of conversations per day.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- There is no formal education requirement for this position
- Must have the physical stamina to stand/walk for long periods (up to 6 hours per day) while meeting and talking to people
- Comfortable with, knowledgeable of, and enthusiastic about discussing topics related to progressive politics, advocacy, and public policy
- Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends
- Ability to memorize and recite scripts and statements prepared and provided by Shawmut Services
- Consistently meet daily and weekly conversation goals
- Understand how to use a cell-phone to track and submit data
- Excellent communication skills including active listening and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within a team and independently based on employer requirements
- Good time management skills to fulfill goals within a specific period
- Ability to travel consistently during the contract period
PREFERRED:
- Previous experience with data entry and reporting functions
- Previous paid or volunteer canvass or fundraising experience (including door-to-door sales work, Census outreach work, etc.)
- Telemarketing or retail marketing experience
- Social service or organizing experience
COMPENSATION:
- This is an hourly position with Shawmut Services, with an hourly rate of $22/hour.
