Purpose and Scope
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining athletic areas, fields, and facilities, assisting at athletic functions, and maintaining equipment for Memphis Shelby County Schools. Essential Job Functions
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED Certificate and six months related training and experience. Participation in a variety of sports, including knowledge of athletics’ rules and regulations with some background in grounds maintenance is Preferred. Requires a valid driver's license with a good driving record. First Aid and CPR training are desirable. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work a flexible schedule according to the athletic event
- Ability to perform all types of work related to athletic competition/practice preparation and use of tools associated with this type of work
- Ability to make general mathematical computations necessary to field dimensions and area preparation
- Basic inventory procedures
- Operate a variety of utility vehicles and passenger vans
- Understand rules and techniques of games and sports contests
- Scoring of a wide variety of games and contests
- Operate a variety of equipment used in athletics and athletic grounds keeping
- Ability to read and understand written instructions
- Ability to work as directed and follows oral instructions
- Physical ability to perform assigned work tasks
- Ability to cooperate with other personnel
- Keep up with new techniques and ways of doing the job
- Maintain records on various computer programs
- Communicate effectively with faculty and students
- Lift heavy objects and make minor repairs to equipment
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
Physical Demands: Requires very heavy work involving exerting over 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and lifting 50 pounds.
Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, moving mechanical parts, traffic. The position may work in a large commercial food freezer for extended periods.
Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, color perception, depth perception.
