Where you Fit In:

Shell's Solutions Development business is responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving a portfolio of new products, services, and business models in the Energy Solutions space aiming to meet the current and future needs of commercial, industrial, and institutional customers.

Solutions Development plays an end-to-end role in the development of Energy Solutions and deploys, aggregates, and monetizes distributed energy resources (DERs). Its fully-wrapped DER solutions and facility analytics offering enable load flexibility, lower energy costs, resilient power, and sustainable electricity supply including:

  • Building load management

  • Energy efficiency

  • Emissions analytics and site decarbonization strategies

  • Solar and energy storage

  • Automated demand response

Energy Engineer

What's the role?

The Energy Engineer will play an integral role in the assessment, commercialization and delivery of energy conservation solutions for commercial and industrial customers. He/she will be expected to lead customer engagements for energy efficiency opportunities from initial assessment through contracting to financial close. The projects will be handed over to a project manager for implementation

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct energy audits at customer facilities to identify energy efficiency (lighting, HVAC etc.) opportunities.

  • Gather required data during site visits through visual inspection of equipment & operations, customer.

  • Perform energy engineering calculations using relevant software modeling tools to determine energy savings and ROI.

  • Develop project scope and translate into high quality customer proposals working with internal stakeholders.

  • Lead negotiation of final contract terms with customers in coordination with Finance and Legal.

  • Prepare financial models including Return on Investment (ROI), life cycle costs, and internal rate of return.

  • Work with Internal Supply Chain and external partners to develop realistic contracting plans for closed projects.

  • Support customer education campaigns working with company marketing and origination teams.

  • Provide continuous feedback on supplier engagements to Product Managers and Supply Chain to inform product strategy.

  • Willingness to travel as necessary to attend customer site visits and contractor engagements.

Requirements

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience on energy efficiency projects through any combination of energy audits, energy program development & implementation, energy management, HVAC

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or Building Architecture. Graduation from a USDOE Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) a plus.

  • Experience developing commissioning, retro-commissioning, and IPMVP-compliant measurement and verification (M&V) plans

  • Strong knowledge of sustainable building practices, codes and standards

  • High-level understanding and experience with commercial buildings' HVAC, lighting, controls and envelope

  • Experience with industry-standard energy calculations, such as weather-based bin calculations.

  • Experience with eQuest, DOE-2, Homer, Helioscope, Trane Trace, or other modelling tools a plus.

  • Experience performing ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 energy audits

  • PE or CEM certifications a plus

  • A track record of supporting the execution of commercial agreements with customers and suppliers. Working knowledge of typical contract structures used to support behind the meter upgrades, such as energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs), energy as a service (EaaS), and power purchase agreements (PPAs)

  • A working technical understanding of the range of the relevant technologies within the solar, energy storage, and microgrid controls category.

  • Cross-business collaboration experience. Demonstrated prior work with multiple disciplines is preferred (technical, commercial, financial, legal, Supply Chain etc.).

  • Comfortable working for a dynamic organization with a fast-growing customer base with diverse needs.
