Controller

• Working in close support of the Senior Director of Accounting and Finance, the Controller is responsible for managing the General Accounting function and the oversight of financial statement preparation and reporting and financial data entry.
• Assists in the annual budget process and audits for the organization. Maintains the financial books for Sheppard Pratt Health System.
• Oversees the recording of investment and insurance programs. Supervises staff in general accounting which includes the cash management function.
• Has a significant role in the development, balancing, and maintenance of all related financial reporting and consolidation

Required:

• Work requires professional level of knowledge of accounting principles and theory and effective verbal and written communication skills - acquired through a bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA or Master’s degree in accounting, finance or taxation preferred
• Work requires level of knowledge of financial analysis and reporting, budgeting, and computerized accounting systems and related computerized systems, and staff supervision – acquired through 5 to 7 years' progressively more responsible experience in general accounting, preferably in a healthcare environment.
• Work requires a high level of problem-solving skills sufficient to analyze processes and results, implement changes in processes and procedures, and effectively identify and resolve problems.
• Work requires interpersonal skills in order to supervise and direct assigned staff and interact effectively with external auditors and Finance Division and Health System staff (21-50% of work time)
• Work requires attention to detail and coordinating limited resources to meet constant internal and external deadlines, and very frequently (51-80% of work time) produces a great deal on mental/visual stress and fatigue.
