National Division
Shimmick’s National Division operates throughout the central and eastern U.S. Comprised of legacy companies, such as Morrison Knudsen, Washington Group, and others, this division has decades-long history of delivering successful transportation, transit, mining infrastructure, and water resources projects. In addition to state DOTs and transit agencies, the National Division has delivered more than $5 billion in work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily in the water resources (dams, reservoirs, locks, levees) sector. The National Division is delivering Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s first build-finance project, the $260 million Gilcrease Expressway project in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- The Project Controls function within Shimmick focuses on satisfying client expectations by working directly on projects at field site locations or Operational Centers.

- Project Controls is an integral part of the Project Management Team and serves as a path to becoming a Project Manager.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the project’s work breakdown structures (WBS)
- Reviews and understands engineering, procurement, and construction schedule logic
- Captures to-date progress and cost data, evaluates to-date performance data, and forecasts at-completion performance data
- Helps to evaluate manpower, labor hours, and labor cost requirements versus budget limitations including the preparation of variance analysis
- Assists in the formulation of progress trends and cost impacts while using the Earned Value Methodology
- Participates in project risks reviews and contingency management, and incorporates scope variations into the cost reports
- Manages the scope control and change management tracking system
- Reviews purchase order and subcontract commitments and expenditures, ensuring that subcontractor funding is aligned with work authorization and expenditures
- May participate in reviewing and approving contractor invoices
- Assists in the preparation of expenditure forecasts to identify critical points in project funding
- Participates in analyzing and using financial data to identify key project issues
- Prepares various levels of project reporting and assists in cost review meetings
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in earthwork, heavy civil or industrial EPC/maintenance projects, specifically in cost control, planning and scheduling positions, or previous field engineering experience with emphasis on reporting and tracking of productivity and costs.
- Experience in setup of work breakdown structure and establishing levels of control
- Experience in cost analysis, forecasting, progress measurement and earned value performance (EVMS)
- Experience in risk analysis, contingency management, and change control
- Understanding of financial terminology, accounting principles and the financial impact of project actions
- Ability to work effectively in a project team environment
- Software experience including PRISM, CMIC, Primavera P6, MS Office Excel or other EVMS programs.
