Position Summary
The Controller manages all aspects of the accounting department and financial activities for the Shoshone Bannock Tribal Enterprise Corporation(s) by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate and other supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities are sub-divided into the following areas.
Management
Assists management in identifying and recommends effective solutions pertaining to problems and/or deficiencies regarding major economic objectives and policies for the corporations. Advises management on insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Participates in Tribal wide Insurance Committees to select insurance broker and submits data to broker for insurance coverages. Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to accounting code revisions.
Continually assess the adequacy of internal controls and will conduct internal reviews of processes to ensure safeguards are kept up to date, in place and functioning properly. Responsible for all balance sheet account reconciliations.
Assists in inventory management which includes the implementation of an effective and efficient inventory procedures.
Confers with the Personnel Specialist with the collection of time and attendance records, new hires, transfers, disciplinary action, and statistical records of performance data.
Attends monthly Board of Director meetings for Corporation(s) as well as any other meetings as necessary.
The Controller performs other duties as needed and assigned to ensure efficient and effective operations.
Financial
Manages the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. Oversees the financial systems, transactions, policies and processes. Establishes and maintains financial internal controls and safeguards corporate assets.
Responsible for the proper recording of capital assets, asset lives and depreciation. Responsible for maintaining the asset ledger. Confers with management and reviews Profit and Loss Statements to suggest and assist with changes in business or operations.
Controller is responsible for soliciting audit services and gaining BOD approval for selected auditor. Controller coordinates all aspects of the audit for the corporation(s), insures audit requests are met and is the main point of contact for the audit.
The Controller participates in meetings, reviews policy and directives, prepares documents and provides verbal and written reports Corporation(s) businesses which summarize the company's forecast, financial position and business activity in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
The Controller works closely with the Corporation Manager(s) to ensure that daily financial data is reported accurately and promptly and also to ensure that monthly financial reports reflect a true picture of the financial state of each respective business.
Training
The Controller works closely with the Compliance/Training Coordinator in developing and implementing training programs that will ensure that all employees within their area of responsibility are effectively trained in the appropriate areas to maintain efficiency for profitable business operation.
Will follow and enforce Policies and Procedures, assists with ensuring that employees have the proper understanding of said policy and procedures manual. Ensures that accounting staff follows applicable Tribal laws, resolutions, and ordinances.
Coordinates staff meetings to review policy directives. Evaluates the effectiveness of the Accounting Department, identifies administrative problem areas. Directs the development and implementation of overall goals, objectives, policies and procedures.

Supervision
Supervises the Accounting Office Staff and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Directly assists managers regarding accounting matters. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
The Controller will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual, Standard Operating Procedures and all applicable laws.
This position jointly reports directly to the Operations Manager(s). Immediate supervision and performance evaluations are received from the Operations Manager(s).

Maintains confidentiality of all information processed through the department including records, reports, documents, conversations, etc. A breach of confidentiality will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Assists in ensuring proper economic growth occurs for the business, other duties and responsibilities will be performed as needed and assigned to carry out position functions.
To perform this job successfully the applicant must possess the following qualifications and competencies:
Minimum
Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting.
Five years demonstrable experience in retail.
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Must possess exceptional computer skills.
Optimum
Master's Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting.
Five years demonstrable experience in retail operations.
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Must possess exceptional computer skills. C.P.A.
Competencies
